I Cannot Overstate How Terrible This Disney World Advice Is (So Here’s What To Do Instead)

Over the years, we’ve heard some BAD Disney World advice.

Cinderella Castle

We’ve overheard conversations on the Monorail and read comments on Facebook and just generally seen a lot of nonsense in the parks. But today, we’re sharing some of the WORST Disney World advice, and what you should do instead.

“Make Sure You Rope Drop the Hagrid Rollercoaster!”

The “Hagrid rollercoaster” is Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, and it’s a fantastic ride, but it’s not even IN Disney World. It’s actually located at Universal’s Islands of Adventure, part of Universal Orlando, which is an entirely different theme park resort altogether.

Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure

If you want to do that ride at all, you’ll need to purchase a separate park ticket to go to Universal. What probably happened with this piece of advice is that you told someone you’re going to Hollywood Studios and they got that confused with Universal Studios.

Hollywood Studios

And if you’re going to Hollywood Studios, we’d recommend you rope drop something like Rise of the Resistance or Slinky Dog Dash instead! (You won’t find anything Harry Potter-themed in that park.)

“Just Wing It!”

One does not simply “wing” Disney World these days. If you’re a seasoned veteran and you don’t want to make a plan ahead of time, you might be able to have a good day in the parks, but if you’re a newbie with a long to-do list…winging it isn’t really an option.

Hey, Mickey!

We recommend you download the My Disney Experience app before your vacation and link all your plans (like hotel reservations and tickets) to your Disney account. Advance Dining Reservations for the parks, hotels, and Disney Springs can be booked 60 days ahead of your trip, and some restaurants will need to be reserved at that point because they fill up quickly.

Crystal Palace

You’ll probably want to test out the app a little bit before your trip to get the hang of it, and we highly recommend reading our guide to Disney Genie+ before your visit so that you know how to use Disney World’s skip-the-line service. There’s a LOT to learn, and going into your vacation completely unprepared will be super overwhelming and will ultimately waste your time in the parks.

“Make Dining Reservations for ALL Your Meals!”

As we mentioned above, Disney World dining reservations can be made 60 days before your trip, but we suggest that you don’t go all gung-ho and make them for EVERY meal.

Roundup Rodeo BBQ

Portions can be hefty at sit-down restaurants in Disney World, and eating all that food three times a week might wreak havoc on your stomach. Plus, it’ll get VERY pricey after a couple of days.

The Boathouse

On top of that, Disney World has several really delicious quick service restaurants and dozens of yummy snacks — if you’re filling up on table service meals, you won’t get to try any of those offerings. So make sure to save some meals for the cheaper options!

  1. My first trip was in 1998. My trip planner told us the best strategy is to always go left because most people naturally go right. The first park I went to was EPCOT, and so I went left and wound up rope dropping….Ellen’s Universe of Energy.

Spent the first 45 minutes on that ride by myself in those massive theater/ride vehicles. At the time I thought it was pretty amazing, but in retrospect I wish I had better advice.
