NEWS: Weather Causes Ground Stop at Orlando Airport

…but what about when you’re on your way to and from Disney World? Orlando International Airport (MCO) is the main airport folks heading to the parks fly through, and it’s also smack dab in Central Florida. This region is prone to harsh summer storms, and that has never been more evident than it is now. Folks traveling through MCO are probably not having a good time.

The Federal Aviation Administration has issued a ground stop for Orlando International Airport. MCO shared an update on its Twitter indicating that due to weather conditions, airline operations may be impacted. Folks flying through MCO should check with their airline directly for more info.

UPDATE: As of 4:20PM ET, the ground stop has been lifted.

We checked the Federal Aviation Administration’s National Airspace System website for more info, and it looks like the ground stop was issued at 2:56PM ET. It’s set to expire at 4:15PM ET, but that could change as the probability of an extension is labeled “medium (30-60%).” Departures have been delayed by 45 minutes on average.

In terms of other updates, it seems the airport is working on adding a pedestrian walkway and rental car lobby area to Terminal C. And the new Brightline Train will start running to Orlando this summer, bringing visitors right into the airport with the station there.
