MAJOR CHANGE Announced for a Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort

Get READY — major changes are about to impact one Disney World hotel and they could dramatically alter your Disney plans.

Fort Wilderness

Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground is already undergoing a bit of a change with Trail’s End Restaurant, which has closed and will reopen in the summer with a different concept (no table service). But soon, even bigger changes will hit this resort.

Disney has announced that they will be bringing “refreshed” (a.k.a. new) cabin “hideaways” to Fort Wilderness! These refreshed cabins will be part of “The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort – A Disney Vacation Club Resort.”

Bill Diercksen, senior vice president and general manager of Disney Vacation Club, shared “We’re excited to continue to build upon the resort’s rich legacy and elevate the cabin experience for our Members and all guests to enjoy for years to come.”

With these plans, Disney will build more than 350 NEW(!!) cabins, which will replace the existing cabins in the hotel.

The new cabins will be built with a focus on the environment, “utilizing the footprint of the existing cabins and taking advantage of more energy-efficient features.”

Each cabin is set to offer enough space for 6 adults to sleep. There will be a bedroom, bathroom, living room, full kitchen, and private patio. Plus, a select number of cabins are expected to be dog-friendly.

These cabins will be part of the Disney Vacation Club resorts, but (as with all DVC properties) will be open for reservations to all guests (including non-DVC folks).

And that’s just the start of changes coming to Fort Wilderness. Other “improvement projects” are underway at this hotel. Disney mentioned that there are “proposed pool and walking trail enhancements” along with expanded dining experiences at Trail’s End Restaurant and Crockett’s Tavern.” And they’ve teased that there’s MORE news to come.

“The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort – A Disney Vacation Club Resort” is expected to open in 2024. More details are set to be released soon, so stay tuned for updates on that!

  1. Disney continuing the trend of De-themeing their resorts. Sad to see such incompetent leadership at the high levels at Disney.

  2. Fort Wilderness was one of my favorite places to stay when we were bringing our kids in the 2000’s. I’m disappointed in the design. It’s not in keeping with the National Park lodge and cabin theme of that area of the world. All the charm is missing. The “feels” of being out West is missing. 😔
