For the past few weeks, news outlets have been buzzing with one big corporate name — Bob Iger.

The former Disney CEO returned to his post to help get the company back on track after the pandemic caused some severe losses in the media division. Iger’s return was met with a combination of excitement, trepidation, and anticipation (it’s all depending on who you ask) and we’ve already started to see some changes implemented at the company. But how do media experts feel about him overall?

Bloomberg recently did a massive end-of-year interview with dozens of leaders in the media industry — producers, agents, lawyers, executives, and more. They were asked a variety of questions about different topics, and they didn’t agree on many answers…EXCEPT when asked about current CEOs of media companies.

When the question was posed “Who is the best CEO in media and entertainment?” the majority answered Bob Iger. That just goes to show that industry experts have faith in Iger’s ability to get Disney’s media division back on its feet. He’s got two years to complete the goal before his replacement takes over, so we’ll be watching to see what happens.

Disney was also chosen as a top answer for the question “If I gave you $1 million to invest in any media company — and you can’t sell for five years — which would you pick?” Those who voted for the company seemed to have confidence in its ability to recover and the fact that Disney has diversified assets that could be sold if the company got into a worse financial bind.

So far, Iger has already made some staffing changes with the company, working on restructuring the media side of the business. And with Disney+’s ad-supported tier having launched last week, that could spell more revenue for the company if consumers wish to upgrade their packages to avoid ads.

Basically, there are some big changes on the horizon with Iger back in office, and it looks like the entertainment community is as tuned-in to his performance as Disney fans are. We’ll continue to report on whatever comes next.

    1. Iger, in my mind, is not that much better than Chapek. It’s a shame that Eisner, Disney’s best CEO since Walt and Roy, could not come back. He understood the entertainment industry and yet has a fair grasp of making money for the company without bleeding its audience and park goers.
