The ending of Avengers: Endgame simultaneously brought fans joy, but devastated fans of Iron Man. Now Phases 5 and 6 of the MCU are ramping up, and we make sure to keep you updated with all the Marvel news that drops. Some pretty big news has come out about Iron Man’s death — it seems a heavily involved Marvel director was not a fan of the decision to end his storyline.

According to a video interview from Variety, Jon Favreau, director of Iron Man, was not a fan of the decision to kill off the superhero who started it all. Joe and Anthony Russo, directors of Avengers: Endgame, shared that they received a call from Favreau after he read the script, and they needed to “talk him off a ledge.”

Favreau was reportedly concerned the death would devastate fans and have them “walking out of the theater and into traffic.” Despite Favreau’s concern, the Russo brothers decided to do it anyway, as they felt Tony Stark had “earned the arc that would feel redemptive and emotional and uplifting and hopeful, even though he had sacrificed his life.”
