When Disneyland first reopened, it did so without some major aspects that guests had come to expect from their time in the parks.
One of the most notable changes to Disneyland since its reopening has been with character meet-and-greets which, similar to what we’ve seen in Disney World, have all been done in a modified way from a distance. Now, Disney has announced that that will be changing — and SOON!
Earlier this month, Disney’s Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Christine McCarthy shared that traditional character meet-and-greets would soon be returning. And now, Disney has confirmed that they will be returning not only to Disney World, but Disneyland as well!
Today Disney announced that they will begin reintroducing traditional character meet-and-greets to Disneyland as early as April 18th! Disney noted, “While not all locations will be available immediately, we anticipate reopening in phases throughout the spring and early summer.”
That means that guests will once again be able to hug their favorite characters and take pictures up close instead of from a distance. And break out your autograph book too!
It is noteworthy that earlier this year select character sightings were added as an option on Disney Genie+, so that guests can use a Lightning Lane for these spots and bypass the standby line to see their favorite characters if they make a reservation. Disney didn’t specifically share if this would be an option with the return to traditional meet-and-greets, but will share as soon as we learn more!
We’re also curious to see how the new character meet-and-greets will work at Avengers Campus, which has so far only existed while distanced sightings have been available!
