If you’re planning a trip to stay at Disney World’s Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel, your visit will be filled to the brim with unique activities.

With everything from Sabacc tournaments to dinner shows to special missions, you certainly won’t be bored during your trip. We got the chance to check out the lightsaber training while we were onboard the Halcyon, and we’re ready to share all the details with you!
Spoiler Warning: Please proceed with caution if you are looking for a 100% spoiler-free experience of the Starcruiser
At some point during your visit to the Star Wars hotel, your itinerary will include lightsaber training (make sure to check your schedule on the datapad to find out when!). When we entered the room during our scheduled session, we found a room with four training stations.

Throughout your training, you’ll be guided by an instructor, also called the Saja. They’ll start by explaining the process. To begin, four people will get the chance to use the lightsabers at a time, and as you go through the first round, everyone will rotate until each guest gets a chance to try it.

The first round is basically a practice opportunity, where the training droid and the instructor will guide you on where to aim and how to hold your lightsaber. You’ll be guided by beams of light to deflect the shots that are coming at you, but it won’t be too challenging on your first try.

After round one, the instructor will pass out shields. At that point, the four guests in the front will use the lightsabers to deflect (no longer in training mode) while the guests in the second and third rows use the shields to help them out while they practice. At this point, you’ll still be guided by beams of light but they’ll come a bit faster!

Once everyone has had a chance at the second level of difficulty, we were surprised by an interruption from Master Yoda (via mystical voice all around us). He encouraged our instructor to allow us to use the Force in our training, and we did just that. The guiding beams of light were disabled and we instead relied on the “Force” to guide us (FYI, the “Force” looks a lot like little sparkly lights 😉).

Once everyone had the chance to use the Force in their training, our instructor ended with an emotional speech about how inspiring we’d been in the training process. If you’re a deep Star Wars fan, this would likely be very moving. For those who aren’t as into the lore, the tears that our instructor shed might have been a little bit confusing.

All in all, it was a very unique experience that we really enjoyed. Those who’ve been big fans of the franchise will likely enjoy it more than the average Joe, but newcomers will probably have a great time nonetheless!

Disclosure: We were invited by Disney to attend a media event for Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, and later attended on opening day where we paid full price for travel, stay, and expenses. This did not affect our reporting of the event — our opinions are our own.
