There has been a LOT of news coming from Disneyland Resort recently and there’s still more!
As Disney prepared to welcome guests back into the Disneyland Theme Parks, they’re posing a new idea that begs the question — could Disneyland Resort be getting bigger?
According to The Orange County Register, Disney is currently in the process of asking the city of Anaheim for more flexibility to expand the theme parks. They have titled the project “DisneylandForward” and are hoping to add new areas that would be referred to as the “westside expansion” and the “eastside expansion.”
These plans aren’t necessarily new for Disneyland. The blueprints are from 1990 and would entail adding more hotels, retail, dining, entertainment, and even theme park area to the eastern and western edges of the land that Disneyland currently spans.
The “westside expansion” would transform the Downtown Disney and Lilo and Stitch parking lots into the theme park expansion. And, the “eastside expansion” would take over what is now the Toy Story parking lot.
The plans also include the potential of adding a new parking lot along Disney Way.
While this expansion would entail the use of a lot more land, the DisneylandForward project would not span beyond the 500-acres that Disney already owns as part of Disneyland.
Disney has not officially announced specifics of what the new park, retail, and hotel area would include but is looking to begin conversations with Anaheim leaders concerning the potential expansion. The discussions are expected to last two years before anything becomes final. We will be sure to keep an eye on any updates about this project so stay tuned for the latest!
