As Orange County moves further into Phase Two reopening, many have begun to wonder when we may hear news of the Disneyland Resort resuming operations.

With retail and restaurants allowed to reopen in the county, we could potentially anticipate an announcement regarding Downtown Disney soon. We have also learned today from the Orange County Register that Disneyland’s theme parks, in addition to other large theme parks in the state, will be able to reopen in Phase Three.
Exactly when California will move into Phase Three is unclear. Governor Gavin Newsom noted that it is not that far away, but he has yet to provide a specific date. In a press conference earlier this month, he noted, ““Phase 3 is not a year away. It’s not six months away. It’s not even three months away. It may not even be more than a month away.”

Signs point to June as a likely start of Phase Three, although Newsom continued on to say, “We just want to make sure we have a protocol in place to secure customer safety, employee safety and allow the businesses to thrive in a way that is sustainable.”

In Phase Three, theme parks including Disneyland, Universal Studios Hollywood, Six Flags Magic Mountain, SeaWorld San Diego, and Knott’s Berry Farm would be allowed to reopen with health and safety measurements in place. This would most likely include limited capacity, the use of face masks, and other physical distancing protocol similar to what Universal Orlando announced would be a part of their initial reopening. It is important to note that, just because these large theme parks can reopen in Phase Three, does not necessarily mean that they will right away.

Other businesses that could reopen in Phase Three include hair salons, gyms, theaters, religious institutions, and sporting events without live audiences present. This is a developing story so be sure to keep checking in as we hear more information in the coming days and weeks.
