Earlier this year, Disney World announced that they would be temporarily closing Spaceship Earth for a “reimagining” of EPCOT’s iconic attraction.
The announcement was made prior to the park’s closure, with an anticipated start date of May 26th. While no further updates have been made regarding the attraction’s lengthy refurbishment, a new update to the Disney website has us wondering if we rode the current iteration of EPCOT’s Spaceship Earth for the last time and didn’t even realize it.
Currently, Spaceship Earth is listed under the official “under refurbishment” section of the Disney World website.
While this notable change could have been pre-programmed prior to the parks’ closure, with a proposed reopening date coming tomorrow from Disney World, it’s also possible that the park will go forward with their original closure date of May 26th to begin the refurbishment.
As a refresher, the ride will be closing in its current form, with work being done inside the geosphere for a period of time. Earlier this year, Disney gave a sneak peek at what guests can expect for the future new version of the ride’s iconic Egypt scene, which will bring new elements of light to enhance the experience.
At the 2019 D23 Expo, we learned that this new iteration of the ride would focus on the “story of humanity, following our long journey from prehistoric humans to today brought to life with magic and depth that only Disney can deliver.” The plan is to blend brand new scenes with some of the iconic ones we know and love from the current Spaceship Earth.
We will continue to bring you updates as we learn more about the refurbishment of Spaceship Earth.

We had plans to go to Epcot on May first from Pa just to ride it one last time and say goodbye. Oh well.
