We LOVE Disney movies around here. And while we had our favorites as kids, we have to admit there were some we weren’t wild about in our youth.
Maybe we thought they were boring, or perhaps scary, but whatever the reason, these didn’t top our VHS lists.
However, thanks to Disney+, we’ve been able to re-watch basically every Disney movie ever! And we’ve found that there are several we like MUCH more now as grown-ups than we did as kids — so we thought we’d share!
Disney Movies We Like More Now Than We Did as Kids
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs:
It seems as though we just didn’t appreciate Snow White for the incredible beauty and historical significance! One writer said, “I have more of an appreciation for the pure feat of the animation of Snow White than I did as a kid.”
Lady and the Tramp:
“I love Lady and the Tramp as a grown up. It was too slow when I was a kid, but now I think it’s romantic!”
Fantasia:
It’s not surprising this didn’t top our list as kids — the movie is wordless with classical music. But in our older, wiser age, we’ve learned to appreciate how gorgeous it is! Also, we like classical music now.
Pinocchio:
“As a grown up I love how inappropriate Pinocchio is. Plus it has a huge cast of colorful characters.”
If you’re wondering what we mean by inappropriate, I have two words for you: DONKEY BOYS.
Sleeping Beauty:
“Stylistically Sleeping Beauty is a really gorgeous movie. The backgrounds look like a medieval tapestry.” Turns out we didn’t always appreciate the art of the films before, but we do now!
Cinderella:
And lastly, my favorite answer of them all:
“I’ve grown to appreciate Cinderella a lot more. I mean that more about the character than the movie, which I always thought was beautiful. But for a time when “today’s” Princesses were coming out and they were just so comparatively independent and outgoing, I think Cinderella paled for me against them. Upon rewatching now, she’s not bland at all — she goes through the full range of emotions of the injustice of her situation — “what’s the use”/”forget this” and yet still retains every ounce of her kindness and her gratitude for that one perfect night. She’s actually pretty amazing to me now.”

I don’t know if it makes me lame as a child or advanced, but Sleeping Beauty, Lady and the Tramp, Cinderella, and Fantasia have always been among my favorites! Fantasia was the first thing I watched on Disney+!!
