54th Anniversary Celebration

My husband and I celebrated our 54th anniversary with a trip to Disney World. Our “go to” resort for many years now is the Swan & Dolphin Resort. We love the atmosphere, the proximity to EPCOT and The Studios, the wonderful restaurant and lounge choices, but mainly the warmth and welcome of their staff. Tony Porcellini, Director of Food and Beverage, and his staff outdid themselves again with their warm welcome and attention to detail. The Swan & Dolphin has our overall favorite food and drinks on Disney property. We spent a very pleasant and entertaining first evening at the Kimono’s bar with our favorite bartender, Chris Deutsch. He is one of those people with a very engaging personality while constantly on the move, keeping everyone happy! Our daughter joined us the next evening (back again to Kimono’s) and we had a great time. Friday night we had dinner at bluezoo – Chad Lobner, Asst. Director of Restaurants, took great care of us (he has been a big help many times over the years). Our server, Karen Newman, and her asst., Khalid El Faghloumi, were so attentive and pleasant. Chef Joab Moyeno came out to greet us and explain his very delicious octopus “amuse bouche.” Pastry Chef Shannon Sherry described her fantastic dessert creations to us. All of these talented, capable professionals made our anniversary celebration something very special. Thank you Tony and your wonderful staff!!

Great Location, Great Staff, Great Food & Drink

Review of 1900 Park Fare Character Dinner

I took my son here to see the characters, specifically the stepmother and stepsisters as I heard they were hysterical. I am bringing 3 teenagers later this summer and thought they'd get a kick out of it. We are not coming back.

The food was good. We were there for almost an hour and a half and the stepmother and sisters never got anywhere near our table. One was speaking to a group of young men for a long time near us, but then left and started all over again across the room. I can't tell you if they were funny or not, since they were always far away. It seems if you get in the middle of the room, you have a lot of interaction, but none if you are not there. Cinderella was weird. She said something about the mice eating all her cheese, that neither of us understood. Prince Charming was nice, but I don't think he knew what to make of a mom and son at the dinner, and it was a little awkward.

Overall, a disappointing experience.

We always love this place, but really do not like the new ordering process. While the end result is nice, with your order arriving at your table, it takes FOREVER to get through the ordering line. The menu is limited, so it should not be hard for people, but it is. They stand in line for a long time and while they have been starring at the menu for 10 minutes, they look back up to see what they want. I found it extremely frustrating. We at there much less than we normally do because of it.

I thought the skillet was delicious. I also liked the fact that you can let them know if you do or do not want to play along. We preferred not too, but still had a great time. Our server was very funny. We really enjoyed it.

We really enjoyed our meal and the atmosphere. They were not able to use our magic band for payment. I generally do not bring a credit card with me and just happened to have one with me. I only had a little cash, so we almost ended up washing dishes! Seriously, that is a problem that should be addressed.

Review of Yak and Yeti Restaurant

Our family visiting Yak & Yeti on Memorial day, so it was definitely more crowded than it usually would have been. Despite reservations we had about a 10 minute wait, but we were expecting it given the holiday.

We were a party of 6 and with that many people we definitely share and sample as much as we can! We had the Thai Chili Chicken Wings and the Firecracker Shrimp as appetizers. The Firecracker shrimp were a bit too spicy for my taste but everyone else enjoyed them. The wings were amazing, nice and mild with a lovely tang to them.

I had the Chicken Tikka Masala which I thought was the best entree at the table. It had great flavor and was served with super fresh naan bread and jasmine rice. So good! Other entrees at the table included the Honey Chicken, Teriyaki Mahi, Shrimp Lo Mein, Baby Back Rips and Chicken Kabobs. Everything was delicious!

For desserts we ordered the mango pie and the fried wontons. Both were great but I think the fried wontons were the better!

Now for the food. Lunch menu is mainly sandwiches along with a Braised Pork plate. We ordered the Roast Beef, Turkey and Grilled Ham sandwiches and my 13y/o order the pork. The sandwiches we HUGE with a generous order of fries and the Pork came with mashed potatoes and seasoned green beans. All were very good, well seasoned and prepared quickly. For dessert, we ordered 4 different items, 3 different cupcakes and an Eclair. Again, all were fabulous! Our meal, including drinks and and dessert totaled $82.20. Although this is a steep price for technically a Counter Service Meal, the feel and service is like a Table Service Meal. I would highly recommend trying to get reservations and experience this. After you're done eating, walk through the rest of the restaurant and take it all in, including the "Rose".

Review of Jiko - The Cooking Place - Jambo House

My husband and I had our anniversary dinner at Jiko. It was an absolutely amazing experience! When we arrived the hostess walked us through the dining room and explained the meaning of the restaurant name as well as the decor. It was a fun little insiders tour before dinner!

Our server, Onsy(sp?), was absolutely amazing. He made great recommendations on our meals and wine selections.

We split the wild boar tenderloin as an appetizer. I was a little worried as I'm not really one for out of the ordinary meats but this was amazing! Super tender and the sauce that comes with it enhances the flavor beautifully. Be warned - it comes rare!

For dinner I had the Harissa Chicken with Cinnamon Couscous. The chicken was tender and juicy and the cinnamon couscous was a perfect pairing!

My husband had the Maize Crusted Halibut over tomato butter. Another stunner. The fish was nice and light and the tomato butter added lovely flavor without being overwhelming.

Since it was our anniversary Onsy brought us each a small chocolate & coffee mousse and chocolate cookies. The mousse was topped with a white chocolate butterfly and was almost too pretty to eat!

I can't wait for our next Disney trip so we can return to Jiko!

Review of California Grill

This was the overall family favorite this trip with very good reason! We had a 9:00 reservation and we were seated immediately. The views from the restaurant are absolutely amazing! Even if you don't get a table right next to the windows there are several view decks available to view Wishes from.

I had the Ahi Tuna and it was my favorite meal of the entire trip. It was perfectly seared and the lo mein noodles it came with were to die for! I finished the whole thing and I am definitely never a member of the clean plate club!

Desserts were outstanding as well. We had the homemade fritters, creme brule, and the sundae sampler. The fritters were everyone's hands down favorite of the entire trip. They are like banana flavored donuts and come with different dipping sauces.

I've read a lot of reviews saying the California Grill has gone downhill but our service and food was exceptional. I definitely recommend to anyone looking for a unique date night or a fun splurge!
