Review of 1900 Park Fare Character Dinner

My three year old daughter and I had dinner here last night. I thought the food was great and there was a lot of variety. My favorites were the house salad, butternut squash ravioli, catfish, and strawberry soup. The Mongolian beef was was chewy and beef strip loin overdone, but the rest of the food was top notch. Our character interaction was good but not great, Lady Tremaine was a bit too much for my little one but Cinderella dried her tears. 🙂 Pretty expensive at $42 for adults and $25 for kids.

Pros:

Quality food and varied selection

Cons:

Characters were good but not great

We ate here on the Monday after Easter. The park was packed and we got in for our 11:30 reservation right away. We were on the dining plan and the food was really good. My 10 year old loved getting the steak. Service was a little slow and couldn't completely keep up with my hungry group with drinks and bread, but not too bad. I asked the waiter to substitute a salad for me instead of a dessert (as we had figured out to share salads and desserts between our party) and he tried to talk me out of it saying the salad was really small. Glad I stuck to it as it was a very normal sized dinner salad that was very good and my son and I shared it and then shared the dessert that he ordered. By the time we left at about 12:30-12:45 the restaurant was filled and the lobby was packed. Glad we chose to skimp on breakfast and do an early lunch. Good overall. My son loved looking up the Hidden Mickeys wherever we were and he found 3 of them in the lobby of the restaurant. He pointed them out to others who got a kick out of seeing them.

Pros:

food, atmosphere, time we chose to eat

Cons:

service a little slow

My husband and son dined here for lunch before their flight home on Tuesday, March 15th. They both loved the location, and thought the food was decent, no complaints. My husband had the Bistro Buffalo Chicken Panini and my son had pizza. They both said they would come back.

Pros:

Quiet Location and Good Food

We had just checked into POR and went to dinner at 5:30. Was so glad we made this reservation as it was a great way to start our trip. There were few people there at that time and we were seated immediately when we checked in at 5:15. Our server was excellent and explained the dining plan and all the details very well as soon as she found out we were first timers to the plan and the restaurant. We didn't even have to ask, she just offered to explain it all. Probably the best service we had all week, actually. Food was excellent. 3 of us had prime rib and 2 had the steak, including my 10 year old who was loving the idea of eating off the adult menu (and had steak many times that week) Love the atmosphere and how it fits in with the resort. Our kids had 'virgin' pina coladas which were quite a treat. We decided to splurge a bit on this trip and do the dining plan which was a great idea with my hungry teen and 10 year old. Thank goodness for the dining plan as our bill, with drinks for kids and adults came to just over $300!! The only downside was realizing the crazy tip we had to leave for that kind of bill. Totally worth it, though as the service was great and the kids still say it was their favorite meal even with the other character buffets we did and Ohana for dinner. Can't wait to stay at POR again and will eat there again too!

Pros:

food, service

Cons:

Review of Riverside Mill Lunch/Dinner

We ate one lunch and two dinners ( one at 10:30 after swimming) at the food court during our 6 days at POR. Had heard about the pasta and how good it was, and found it to be true! My son and I had pasta twice each and it was cooked very well and with the toppings were available, was very good. We had the dining plan, but the cost of the pasta was about $12 which I didn't think was out of line for a big serving with a bread stick that was made right in front of you with fresh ingredients. Younger son had flatbread pizza twice and it was fresh and good both times. Food from grill was okay - not terrific, but good for grill food. Great bakery items. I came and got cinnamon rolls and croissants in the mornings when we didn't want to take time to eat. So good! Chocolate croissant was excellent! My only complaint is how the food areas and check out areas are arranged. They are too close together for the very busy times and the lines for the pizza and the pasta (2 separate lines next to each other) got very long one evening when it was raining and then it was really hard to get around with trays full of food and drink. Most of the time there were only 3 check outs open which didn't help either. The ice machines seem to not work most of the time on the beverage line, but I am sure they just can't keep up when it's so busy. We knew going at Easter would mean lots of long lines so it wasn't a big deal, but just some things we noticed. It's all part of the experience. I really like the large dining area so you don't feel like you are right on top of other tables and it's fun to sit by the big wheel and watch it work. The theming of the resort is so fun and it all fits together well. Loved the tables with the mixmatched chairs. They all go together well. Loved being there, can't wait to go back!

Pros:

pasta bar, theming, lots of places to sit, bakery

Cons:

busy, long lines at times, gets congested when food lines get long.

Review of Port Orleans French Quarter (Moderate Resort)

I stayed alone at FQ (daughter and her family stayed at Riverside) April 2-8, 2016, in Building 6. Check in was quick and easy, staff friendly, parking close enough to be no problem for me, at age 70, to carry clothes and other items to room. FQ is beautiful, quiet, and for adults, the perfect Disney resort. Live music near the bar, outdoor movies for families, easy and pleasant walk to Riverside along the river. I've read reviews of FQ complaining mildly about the buses, the food, and some aspects of the rooms. Alone, I had no problem waiting in the Florida sunshine, seated on a bench at the bus stop. I was there during a very busy, crowded week, and the buses did have some delays, and I had to stand during a few of the rides, but unless Disney increases its bus fleet by a thousand, I don't see how it could provide more timely service. The drivers of all the buses I rode were friendly and cheerful. As for the food court, the drinks area was not dirty, but it was messy -- spilled drinks, napkin containers empty, just generally sloppy. Again, with so many people using this area, a bit of mess should be expected, unless Disney pays an employee to do nothing but stand there and clean things up as soon as they spill. As for the food, I found the pot roast, mac/cheese, and corn, with cornbread combo to be not just good but delicious. Had it three times. The pastries were outstanding. I think FQ might be more fun for adults than children, especially older adults. Evenings were calm, quiet, and sitting on the bench overlooking the river was a real pleasure. I stayed at Riverside several times over the past fifteen years and thought FQ would be a disappointment. It most definitely was not, and I will stay there again instead of Riverside.

Pros:

Quiet

Cons:

Room never vacuumed

Review of Fairfax Fare

We looked at the several places on the corner area & picked Rosie's although what we got is available at Fairfax Fare as well.

4/9 @ 7:30pm, 2 adults, no DDP, each ordered the kids turkey sandwich. Got fries & apple slices & Sprite. The Darth Vader cupcake looked cool, but was too pricey for me. It was a nice light dinner while we waited for the fireworks. Seating was nice although we had to wander 5 minutes to find some. If you walk over to the side heading out towards the park entrance, there is more seating away from where you order (it seems people clump in those areas). I can see how this place quickly becomes a madhouse in prime time as people hold tables or won't share.

Rosie's All American Cafe

We ate at Chef Mickeys on March 30th...this was our second time eating at Chef Mickeys. We arrived 10 minutes prior to our reservation time and did not have to wait at all. My 3 year old dd was enamored with the characters. They were wonderful and we did not feel rushed.

The food was another story...not what I would consider high quality...even for Buffet food I was expecting better...I think the meatballs were from the frozen food section at a store...the bread was good...desserts were ok...the next time we visit WDW we will branch out and try something else.

Food quality

Review of Chefs de France - Lunch/Dinner

This was one of our favorite restaurants. A must do at least once during our trips. We always go for lunch. We love the croquet monsieur, quiche and the burgers served with fries in the newspaper cups. We were so disappointed when we ate here last week. The menu was changed several weeks ago and none of these items are on the menu. It looks like it has changed to the regular dinner menu. Personally, I like lunch for lunch, not a heavy dinner. I am so incredibly sad to take this one off our list.

Pros:

Service

Cons:

New Menu

I really wanted to love this, but only kind of like it. Our server was absolutely wonderful. Very attentive, knowledgeable and fun. The food was very good, but I did not feel it was worth the high price tag. I had the dancing fish and that was neat, but really not the special from a taste perspective. The dessert we ordered was not on the menu, so our server gave us truffles to go. While normally that would be nice, this was a date night and we actually had time and would like to have stayed for dessert. We ate early, so not sure why a dessert would not be available and why we weren't told before we ordered it...our server told my husband that she thought they were out, and confirmed that. It was a nice gesture to give us some to-go stuff, but it was kind of an abrupt/strange way to end the evening.
