Walt Disney World hotels have been a major part of the resort experience since the beginning — literally, the Polynesian and Contemporary were two of the most publicized opening day attractions of the Vacation Kingdom — however, that doesn’t mean everything’s always magical.

I’ve been staying at Disney World hotels for over 30+ years, and while I’ve had very good experiences the majority of the time, as one would expect, there have been times when things have gone wrong. Judging by the responses we got from readers when we asked “What are some glaring problems at Disney World hotels that need to be fixed ASAP?”, I’m not alone in that.
Let’s begin with one of the most common answers we received, which was expressed plainly by reader Graham: “Bring back Disney’s Magical Express!” Many readers expressed the same sentiment, longing for the return of Disney’s “free” (IE, included with a Disney hotel stay) shuttle service to and from Orlando International Airport (MCO). A couple of readers even said they would be willing to pay extra for a new version of the service.

Another issue cited by several fans were the hours of quick service eateries at Disney World’s hotels. Specifically, they called for options to be available for guests returning to their resort after park closures. Several, like reader Debbie, also brought up having locations open even later on special event evenings. They wrote, “So I would say, not just deluxe, but on event nights like Mickey’s Very Merry or Jollywood nights. Quick service in your hotels should at least stay open till maybe an hour after the park closes, and offer things that may not be just cookies or something sweet. Sandwiches, flatbreads, sometimes you just don’t want to eat sugar.”

Other common refrains included a call for the return of traditional mini-fridges instead of the current beverage coolers offered in rooms, the return of daily housekeeping, the return of in-room package delivery, the return of room service food offerings, and the inclusion of Lightning Lanes for hotel guests.
And then there’s the toilet paper.
That’s right, toilet paper. DOZENS of readers complained about the quality of Walt Disney World toilet paper. Several said they even bring their own toilet paper on vacation, while one even said Disney’s offering feels like “sandpaper.” Ouch.

However, all that said, reader Tina had a rebuttal to these TP complaints: “Can we stop complaining about the toilet paper? The thin toilet paper is to prevent issues with the plumbing; it’s a vast and older system ( one that they keep adding to). Thinner paper breaks down quicker, thus preventing issues with clogging. When you realize the sheer number of people flushing the toilet every minute, well, then you get it. So don’t go bringing your fancy x4 layered quilted, scented paper to WDW because you just might need a plumber.”

While the vast majority of guests have positive experiences at Walt Disney World hotels, many of our readers still have some issues with the resorts at the “Most Magical Place on Earth.” Stay tuned to AllEars for more thoughts from YOU, and if you’re interested in sharing your thoughts on this, or any other Disney or travel-related topic, follow us on the AllEars Facebook to join in on the next conversation!
