BREAKING: NEW Hotel and Major Expansion Announced for Shanghai Disney Resort

The Walt Disney Company just can’t slow down! Disneyland is getting a major expansion, Disney World is changing at an unprecedented rate, and that’s not even mentioning the major CEO changes on the horizon.

Now, Shanghai Disney is getting in on the big changes with a brand new hotel and expansion. Let’s check out everything we know!

Shanghai Disney is building a fourth Disney-themed hotel and expanding their shopping, dining, and entertainment district! The new hotel will be adjacent to the entrance of Shanghai Disneyland, and once it’s completed, it will be “a gateway for its guests to begin their magical Disney parks experience.” It will be the closest hotel to the park!

The development plans include new shopping and dining options just outside of the theme park. This fourth hotel is being added to the expansion of the resort that’s already underway in Shanghai Disney. Currently, the resort is working on new projects, including a third hotel on the shore of Wishing Star Lake.

Not only that, the resort is also working on changes to its classic Soarin’ attraction, like expanding the ride’s capacity and adding new destinations. Disney shared that these expansions are coming as the resort welcomes its 100 millionth guest and the demand for the park continues to grow. Plus, they’re currently working on a new Spider-Man-themed land as the park’s 9th land. 

Andrew Bolstein, President and General Manager of Shanghai Disney Resort, said, “Guest experience is at the heart of everything we do. By blending creativity, innovation and storytelling, we continue to design and deliver new, unique experiences in true Disney style.” He continued to say, “The new hotel will become another important touchpoint of our holistic resort offering, and with the additional shopping and dining experiences, we will provide our guests with a vibrant, comprehensive vacation experience with even more dynamic options.”

The new hotel “will feature unprecedented immersive storytelling experiences in a way that Disney uniquely brings to life.” Not only that, the expansion will include a new “shopping destination” similar to the World of Disney Store that’s on the opposite side the the park. The new store will give guests “access to the resort’s exclusive merchandise without entering the park.”

The new hotel will be the latest addition to join the other three themed hotels, including Shanghai Disneyland Hotel, Toy Story Hotel, and the third hotel that’s currently under construction. The third hotel is on the south side of Wishing Star Lake and is being designed and decorated in the Art Nouveau style. When it’s completed, it will have rooms with a view of the park along with new amenities.

The resort initially opened in 2016 and has seen several big changes over its decade of operation, like the opening of the world’s first Zootopia land!
