A highly anticipated new addition is about to open in the Magic Kingdom… and it’s going to change how most guests navigate the park.

Many guests experience the Magic Kingdom in one of two ways. After walking up Main Street, they either head into Tomorrowland and spend their day circumnavigating the park in a counterclockwise direction, finishing up with Adventureland, or – as I have done in nearly every visit of my 30+ years going to Disney World – heading through Adventureland and circumnavigating through park counterclockwise. Even as elements like Lightning Lanes have been introduced to the park, leading to some jumping between attractions, most have stuck to their path of choice. However, the upcoming opening of the Beak and Barrel may change that.
After nearly a year of anticipation following its announcement at last year’s D23 Ultimate Fan Event, in early August, Disney confirmed that the Pirates of the Caribbean-themed lounge is finally going to open on August 29th.

The new lounge, with a menu that will offer non-alcoholic beverages, including The Treasure Trove, and The Cursed Treasure and cocktails including the Salty Seas mARRRgarita, the Siren’s Whisper, the Barrels Ablaze, the Hibiscus Rum Punch Royale.

Guests will be able to enjoy those drinks in a high-themed, pirate atmosphere, which features two major rooms:
- The Mess: A large central space themed as a former mess hall for Spanish soldiers, The Mess features long tables that span the room, “allowing for pirates to gather ‘round and tell their own tales, while an imposing anchor covered in candles and dripping wax hangs high above. A large bar anchors one side of the room, cobbled together from salvaged portions of a cursed shipwreck. At its center, the skull-shaped stern holds an impressive collection of grogs and brew. Guests may also spot the Enchanted Rum Bottle, which was gifted to Merry by the enchantress Tia Dalma and seemingly serves as the source of the tavern’s specialty brews, or Rummy hobbling along the bar’s ledge, greeting the patrons and keeping a close eye on the crew while Merry is away. “

- The Captain’s Quarters: Themed as the former living space of a Spanish Comandante, the luxurious Captain’s Quarters featuring intricate theming including “fine artwork and drapery”on the walls, much of which “hasn’t escaped slashing blades or burn marks over the years by rambunctious pirates” and group of five ships in a bottle sitting on the mantle mounted above the fireplace that are “rumored to represent pirates from every corner of the world banding together to defeat tyranny.” According to Disney, guests should “keep a weathered eye out, as these mysterious bottles have been known to come alive and engage in a fearsome battle.”

The combination of beloved attraction connection, new menu, and heavily themed environment has made demand for the Beak and Barrel high, which has in turn, led to the lounge being available through reservation only.

Those lucky enough to score reservations will be forced to alter their Magic Kingdom plans. For example, those who usually start the day in Adventureland will need to work their way back there for their reservation before heading back across the park. Meanwhile, those who begin in Tomorrowland will likely need to jump ahead to Adventureland before circling back to where they left off.

The highly anticipated opening of Beak and Barrel is going to change what land-hopping represents for many at the Magic Kingdom. Stay tuned to AllEars for more on the new lounge.
