If you’re heading to Disney World soon, there’s a Lightning Lane loophole you need to be aware of!

It’s been over a year since Disney introduced the Lightning Lane skip-the-line system, including Lightning Lane Multi Pass ( which might be the simplest of Disney’s queue systems in the 6+ years I’ve been writing about Disney’s parks). Over the course of that time, our AllEars team has tested the system every which way and found something interesting.
So what’s the loophole? Well, it’s all about stacking…
So, let’s start at the beginning. When you book a Lightning Lane reservation, you technically get a one-hour return window, as listed in the My Disney Experience app. But what our exhaustive testing of the new system revealed is that it actually gives you two additional hours after that window ends, where the Lightning Lane still works. We only came to this conclusion by testing every possible return time scenario. Just under three hours? We scanned in green. Over three hours? That was a blue. In total, that ride stays valid for three full hours.

Here’s where it gets interesting: Once that first hour ends, even if you haven’t scanned in, the system treats the reservation as “used.” In other words, you can immediately book another Lightning Lane reservation, even though you haven’t tapped into the initial one yet.

Meanwhile, that original reservation is still valid for two more hours. You have that much time to scan in and get a green light—which means you still have an active reservation. If you see blue, it means you don’t.

A couple of notes about using this loophole: Once that first hour of your Lightning Lane reservation expires, it doesn’t unlock your ability to book additional Tier 1s. It won’t do that until you actually scan in for one. Secondly, Disney could change this at any time without notice, but until then, it’s a powerful way to supercharge your Multi Pass. You just have to understand how the system works. Stay tuned to AllEars for more Lightning Lane tips.
