One of the highlights of a Disney World trip can be the rides! There are different rides for everyone, but you should be warned: some can ruin your trip!

After coming to Disney World for years, I’ve become obsessed with rides and will always try to squeeze in one extra ride before heading somewhere else. There are some rides that you should avoid squeezing in because it might backfire.
You might see a short wait time and think, “I’m going to get through this ride so fast!” While that is a possibility, even a short wait means you can be in the attractions for a long time.

Why does this matter? Don’t you want to spend a long time on rides? Well, if you have nowhere to be, yes! If you do, skip!

If you have a dinner reservation soon or a Lightning Lane you need to get to and you hop into one of these long lines, you can miss your next event! Ah! Depending on how late you are, you might miss your entire dinner reservation and not be able to reschedule, or the Lightning Lane might have just been a waste.

There are some rides that are always longer than you think. One of those is Kilimanjaro Safaris! The attraction is about 20 minutes long, but that’s if everything goes smoothly. Animals are known for getting in the way of the vehicles, and if they do, you won’t be able to drive around. You’ll need to wait for the animals to leave, and they usually have their own schedule.

It’s one of the most popular rides in Animal Kingdom, but make sure you have plenty of time before you ride it.

Another long one is Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. From three different preshows before you get on the actual ride, you’re looking at around 20-ish minutes, again, assuming everything goes well. Because it’s a while before you get onto the vehicle, if there’s any sort of delay, you’re stuck in the middle of the ride, standing and waiting for the next step.

This is one of my favorite rides and not one to miss, but make sure you’re not stressed about your reservation before helping the Resistance.

A surprisingly long ride is the Carousel of Progress. This classic Disney attraction is on a rotating stage, taking you through different years and technology. It’s a fun and nostalgic ride, but goodness, it can be long.

It’s perfect for when you need air conditioning for a bit, but remember, once you’re on it, you won’t be able to leave till the end, even though it’s a show.

There are also some rides that are relatively short but tend to stop often. A classic is the PeopleMover. This ride is known to break down, and you could be sitting up there for 30 minutes or more waiting before it either starts back up or you get evacuated.

The same goes for Spaceship Earth. I have personally been stopped by the person clicking on Morse code for 20 minutes, which almost made me late to a reservation at Wilderness Lodge. Beyond it being stressful, I also had to listen to clicking for 20 minutes, and it put me in a bad mood for dinner.

While “it’s a small world” doesn’t break down often, there can be a backup of boats that can cause you to sit in the final scene for a while. You’re boat will be touching the one in front and you’ll be sandwiched while listening to the song on repeat. It’s worse when you can see the end insight but still have to wait for another five boats to load and unload in front of you.

Beyond rides, don’t underestimate catching a show. While they’re a great way to relax, by the time you load, wait for the show to start and leave, you can be looking at 40 minutes. The actual show might only be 30, but it takes a bit to get everything rolling.

Technically not rides, but will give a special shoutout to shows, cause those things are like 30 minutes. Keep this in mind for The Hall of Presidents, American Adventure, Festival of the Lion King, Finding Nemo: The Big Blue…and Beyond, Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage, and Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular.

Does that mean you should avoid these rides? No! Every ride deserves the spotlight, but you should try to hop on these rides when you have plenty of time to enjoy them. Make sure you keep following AllEars for more tips and tricks for your Disney World trip.

Apart from missing an ADR or Lightning Lane, use the restrooms before you line up (just in case) because it could be a really long time before you can leave the ride or attraction.
