What’s going on with the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (CFTOD) these days? We’ve got an update.

Several months back, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis got legislation passed that restructured Disney’s Reedy Creek Improvement District and turned it into the CFTOD. Since the new board members were named, we’ve been keeping an eye on the meetings to see what changes have been announced for Disney World, and after the most recent meeting, we have news to share.
For starters, the meeting on June 21st kicked off with the board revealing a new logo for the district. It’s possible that this means we’ll start to see the logo pop up around Disney World property. Previously, the Reedy Creek logo was on some buildings and signage around property and certain trash cans at Disney Springs.

The other big update during the meeting is that the board will be adopting a “whistleblower” policy. Board Chairman Martin Garcia says, “We want to adopt a policy that says we don’t have deaf ears, nothing will fall on deaf ears.” The goal is to create a “new culture.”

This policy provides protection for whistleblowers and sets a process for reporting unlawful activity. It applies immediately to nonunion staff, according to the Orlando Sentinel. For unionized employees, the effective date will be August 1st at the earliest. It supplements other state and federal regulations along similar lines.

In addition to this new policy, board member Glen Gilzean (who was hired a few weeks ago) says that he’s currently working to finalize a contract for the district’s unionized firefighters. It would “increase annual starting pay from $55,000 to $65,000 and add up to three dozen new firefighters and paramedics.” At the meeting, it was announced that the current Fire Chief, Richard LePere Jr., will be retiring after serving with the department since 1999. The district plans to launch a nationwide search for a replacement.

Those are the main updates from the June 21st board meeting, but we’ll keep you updated as we get more information about these changes. Stay tuned to AllEars for the latest!
