CHANGES at TRON Coaster, 'Moana' Attraction, and More Construction Updates in Disney World

We got some BIG updates on Disney World’s major projects recently!

At the D23 Expo, Disney shared a closer look at what we’ll be able to expect when it comes to new attractions like Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana. And the concept art and models have us PUMPED! But what do the ongoing projects look like currently? We’re sharing a look at all the construction in Disney World.

Magic Kingdom

Let’s start things out at Magic Kingdom with a TRON update! This week, some BIG changes were made to the landscaping in front of the building! We got what looks to be new concrete slabs, as well as a large planter of sorts (although it might also be a ride sign — what do you think?). It’s really starting to come together

Across from the TRON coaster, the Walt Disney World Railroad tracks are back in place! They had previously been moved due to TRON construction, but now we’re one step closer to possibly having the railroad open again. We can’t wait!

And near the front of the park, work continues with updating the brickwork on Center Street. Guests can still walk down the sidewalk and visit the stores on either side, but the main path is blocked from visitors.

We’ll keep an eye on the progress of these projects, especially the TRON coaster! We can’t wait to get more news soon.

EPCOT

Moving on to EPCOT, we’ve got some big changes with World Celebration and World Nature! First of all, more landscaping was completed near Guest Relations, in the large area that used to have a walking path towards the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind building. We’re interested to see what they add here.

In the middle of the park, things are moving along with Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana. Some of the rockwork for the attraction is getting painted. When it was constructed, it was gray, but now some parts are colored shades of brown, tan, and orange.

Closer to Spaceship Earth, two pavilions and a small building have been constructed. Another concrete structure is in the process of being built next to the pavilions. Much of the area is still covered in dirt, considering construction hasn’t yet moved on to the landscaping phase.

On the World Showcase side of the construction zone, we can see the beginnings of CommuniCore Hall being built. Two buildings have gone vertical so far.

Over by Test Track, Cool Wash has been closed since the pandemic, but the area in front of the former drink stand has been used for tables during festivals. Now, the stand is blocked by rolling planters and when riding the monorail, guests can see that the concrete has been torn up inside.

Moving on to World Showcase, we’ve got another update on the Mitsukoshi Department Store in Japan. The tarps have moved yet again, and they’re now covering a large section at the front left of the store.

It seems as though they’re working on the store one section at a time now. It’s a little difficult to navigate with the tarps in their current position, and some of the merchandise has moved around a bit, so keep that in mind.

Animal Kingdom

Over at Animal Kingdom, not much has changed in the past week in terms of construction. Shrubs are still blocking the fountain in front of DINOSAUR, although the ride is still operating as usual.

We’ll keep an eye on the area to look out for any changes!

Around Disney World

And last but not least, we’ve got an update on the beloved Goofy billboard that resides on Disney World property. It seems that the billboard is getting a new paint job!

Goofy is still driving the van, but now the words have been cleared from the sign. Hopefully, it’ll be nice and spiffy when it’s done!

Those are all the big construction updates from Disney World this week! We’ll be watching the parks closely to see if anything changes soon, especially with all the big announcements from the D23 Expo.
