NEWS: Universal Orlando Sued by Ride Maker Claiming Unpaid Work

There appears to be some controversy stirring at Universal Orlando.

The park is currently being sued by a ride manufacturer claiming it’s owed several million dollars for unpaid work on a ride, as reported by the Orlando Sentinel. The ride in question is Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon, and Austrian company Dynamic Motion Rides (aka DyMoRides) filed a lawsuit in March saying Universal owes them $5 million.

There’s a lot that goes into the ride development process in a theme park like Universal Orlando. From the conception to the development and the manufacturing, there are infinite moving parts and collaboration that need to come together. Sometimes, things don’t always go so smoothly.

DyMoRides is seeking restitution for “unpaid bills with interest,” in the sum of a cool $5 million. This would also cover what they’re calling “unauthorized use of DyMoRides’ intellectual property related to a motion system.”

Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon first debuted in Universal in 2017, and according to court documents, the development was rocky from the beginning. In other words, Universal and DyMoRides apparently had numerous disagreements about design changes.

In the 64-page lawsuit, DyMoRides claims that Universal made major design changes without providing the proper written notices, and ultimately terminated their contract in order to work with Utah-based Petersen Inc. When the ride finally opened, credit was given entirely to Petersen Inc. instead of DyMoRides.
