There’s a new update regarding the Walt Disney Company.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, a previous Walt Disney Company accountant is suing Disney after she accused them of firing her when she brought up misleading accounting practices.
The ex-senior financial analyst Sandra Kuba had worked for Disney since 1999, and was promoted to a higher-up position as senior analyst in 2013. On Tuesday, she filed a lawsuit against Disney Financial Services based in Burbank, California for unspecified damages that include back pay and attorney’s fees.

In Kuba’s lawsuit, she states, “On a number of occasions throughout her career, (Kuba) reported her concerns about Disney’s policies, practices, and procedures that she genuinely and reasonably believed were unethical, improper or illegal to Disney’s management. Each time, (Kuba) suffered from harassment, hostility and retaliation as a result.”

Kuba went as far as to say that Disney could possibly be manipulating its books, saying that she noticed revenue reported several times for the same transaction. She also saw “nonsense entries that camouflaged the altered transactions flow created by Financial Systems.”

Additionally, Kuba noted that Disney’s internal control and fraud investigation added more “guest inconvenience promotion charge codes” rather than auditing the figures. This would end up bringing about “recorded revenue that did not exist and needed to be reversed.” However, Kuba said that her supervisors didn’t help to fix these issues when she brought them to their attention.

After filing an SEC Whistleblower Complaint while on medical leave, Kuba was fired when she returned to work. Kuba believes her termination was a direct result of her complaints.

At this time, the Walt Disney Company has said the lawsuit is “meritless” as they prepare to bring it to court. As more information about the situation is released, we’ll be sure to update you on everything you need to know!
