Construction on Universal Orlando’s Epic Universe theme park has been delayed since mid 2020.

The park was originally announced in 2019. The 750-acre plot of land would include a new entertainment district with shops, restaurants, and even hotels. It was expected to open in 2023, but construction was delayed and employees were laid off due to the ongoing pandemic.
But Universal has announced that construction on the park will “begin immediately” — although it will take several months to ramp up to full speed, as they need to restaff.

The construction, according to Universal, will create thousands of new jobs across Central Florida. And upon its completion, the park will create over 14,000 permanent jobs. Brian L. Roberts, Chairman and CEO of Comcast Corporation, stated that Epic Universe “is our single-largest investment in the state and represents our enthusiasm for the spectacular park and the economic opportunities it will generate.”

The park will almost double Universal’s total acreage in Central Florida. Universal hasn’t clarified an expected opening timeline, so we’ll keep you posted as we learn more. Stay tuned to AllEars!
