Universal was in the middle of construction on their newest theme park, Epic Universe. Initially the park was supposed to have an opening window of 2023, but now the project might take even longer due to the ongoing global situation.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, Universal has ceased all construction on the park as of now, though Comcast CEO Brian Roberts would not confirm what the delayed construction’s impact would be for the project’s overall timeline.

Universal does not have a firm timeline on when their parks will reopen, but top executives from the company are working together with Florida task forces to come up with a recovery plan for the state’s businesses. Roberts believes that once the parks reopen, the company will “benefit from strong pent-up demand.”

When it opens, Epic Universe is rumored to bring many new experiences to the resort such as a version of their Super Nintendo World, a Fantastic Beasts area, and a land dedicated to the classic Universal Monsters.
