NEWS: Royal Caribbean Cruise Line Announces They May Eliminate Buffets When They Resume Sailings

An industry that has been hit particularly hard by the current global health crisis has been the cruise industry. From a CDC No Sail regulation, to regulations from countries on what can and cannot come into ports, most cruise lines have had to halt sailings indefinitely.

And now, it sounds like when sailings do come back, they will likely have new standards and practices in place.

According to Travel Pulse, the CEO of Royal Caribbean, Michael Bayley, revealed that buffets will be removed from ships when sailings resume for Royal Caribbean cruises. Whether a temporary change or not, the measure would be done to ensure that ships would be able to avoid the spread of illness this way.

In the call, Bayley said, “I think in the beginning, there will not be a buffet, that’s how I see it. We will utilize the space, we will utilize the Windjammer, but in all probability, it won’t be a classical buffet. It will be something more akin to a restaurant.”

During this call, executives for Royal Caribbean also revealed that they are working with the Center for Disease Control on making sure that they can implement health and safety measures for guests and crew members when they resume sailing.

Interestingly enough, according to USA Today, Royal Caribbean also recently filed a patent application intended for their own branded version of a face mask, dubbed the “Seaface”.

As of now, Disney Cruise Line has not released their own plans for resuming sailing, though Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger recently stated that he expects the Disney Cruise Line to be the last of the company’s sections to resume operations.
