NEWS: Japan Declares a State of Emergency - Could This Mean Extending Tokyo Disney's Closure?

[Note: The Tokyo Disney Resort closure has since been extended until further notice, with a re-evaluation in mid-May.]

The Tokyo Disney Resort has already extended their closure several times due to the global health crisis, and now the country that the resort calls home is being forced to act.

Japan has declared a month-long state of emergency for Tokyo and six other prefectures to preserve the public health.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe made the announcement today that this declaration will last until May 6th. “It is no exaggeration to say that Japan’s economy, and the world economy, is facing the biggest crisis since postwar right now,” Abe said at the conference. “We will protect the employment and life at all costs.”

Included in this state of emergency is a request for citizens to stay at home, guidance to schools on temporary closures, requests to close non-essential businesses and stores, and canceling or postponing events and exhibits.

Disney has not made an official statement on what this means for a possible extension to the Tokyo Disney Resort’s closure, but we will keep you updated as we learn more.
