Former Disney World Cast Member Reveals How to Become a Galactic Hero on Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin

A popular Disney World ride got an overhaul…and we’ve got a NEW guide for how to conquer it!

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin got a major update in Magic Kingdom, and how you play the ride’s game has CHANGED. This means that if you want to be a top scorer, you’re going to need to implement some new strategies!

The ride was refurbished over several months and reopened in April 2026. When it reopened, it had new handheld blasters, interactive targets, and an updated scoring system. The ride vehicles were also upgraded and a new scene with a robot named Buddy was added to the beginning of the ride.

Before the ride closed, we knew all the tricks to becoming a Galactic Hero, which meant that you scored 999,999 points. Previously, that was the top score you could achieve. However, now, you can earn more than one million points, and that million is the benchmark you’ll need to be considered a Galactic Hero.

So what are the tricks? Well, first of all, riders earn extra points when they hit targets that are flashing white. However, if you aim for clusters of targets that are flashing in rainbow colors, you can get even MORE points and sometimes unlock a bonus round. During that 10-second bonus round, you can rapid-fire targets to earn massive points. That’ll get you much closer to your goal!

Unlike the old version of the ride, target values can change. So it’s a better idea to shoot around and aim for different targets instead of focusing hard on one or two at a time. You never know when the points could spike.

But if you do want to aim for a singular target, you can hit it multiple times to increase the number of points earned. Thankfully, this is made easier by the fact that you can hold down the trigger of your blaster. Aim for the center black circle of each target to score.

Also, it’s generally a good idea to aim for targets that are further away or more challenging to snag. Those tend to have higher point totals overall.

If you implement these tricks, you’ll be on your way to Galactic Hero status in no time! For more tips and ride hacks, subscribe to our newsletter and follow us on social media.
