I Ordered a DIY Gin Tonic and a Snack Board at Disney World, and Honestly? This Place Deserves Better

There are Disney World lounges people talk about constantly, and then there are the ones sitting quietly in the corner looking gorgeous, serving excellent drinks, and somehow still not getting the love they deserve. Barcelona Lounge at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort is firmly in that second category. And frankly? That feels rude.

Our coaster

Because this place is part of what makes Coronado Springs such a sleeper hit. Yes, the resort is big. Yes, the built-in Disney transportation here is bus service, with Minnie Van as a paid option. Yes, people love to act like that alone disqualifies it from greatness. Meanwhile, Gran Destino Tower is over here being stunning, Barcelona Lounge is pouring gin tonics like it has something to prove, and the whole resort continues to quietly flex one of the best dining lineups in Disney World.

And that is exactly why I will keep yelling about this resort until people listen.

Background

Barcelona Lounge is located at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, on the lower lobby level of Gran Destino Tower. It is a day-to-night espresso bar and Spanish-style Gin Tonic hub, and that honestly tells you a lot about what kind of place this is trying to be. It opens in the morning for coffee and pastries, then shifts into cocktail mode later in the day.

Barcelona Lounge

That setup alone gives it a little extra personality. This is not just a sad hotel bar parked next to a lobby because every resort needs somewhere to sell you a drink. This place has a point of view. It has a theme. It has aesthetic ambition. It has stained glass and a chandelier situation. It has “let’s have one civilized little drink and then somehow stay for two hours” energy.

Just look at the STUNNING lobby

And while Coronado Springs tends to get boxed into the “nice, but too spread out” conversation, I’m just going to say it: this resort deserves better than that. Coronado is a lakeside oasis celebrating Spanish, Mexican, and Southwest American influences, and that identity really comes through in the dining across the resort. You’ve got Barcelona Lounge, Dahlia Lounge, Toledo, Three Bridges, and more, all in one resort footprint. That is not a throwaway food scene. That is a roster.

Gran Destino Tower Lower Lobby

So, even before we get into the actual menu items here, let the record show that I am already biased. Happily. Openly. Unapologetically. If I had to be stranded at a Disney World resort, this would absolutely be near the top of my list. Pretty views, strong cocktails, multiple good food options, and an overall vibe that feels a little more grown than the average resort stop? Hand me my room key and leave me there.

Atmosphere

Barcelona Lounge is the kind of place that makes you feel like you made a smarter decision than everybody else.

She is the moment

The lounge has lake views over Lago Dorado from the patio bar, plus warm colors, eclectic patterns, a stained-glass wall behind the bar, and a chandelier meant to evoke a glistening sun. That sounds dramatic on paper, but in person, it works. It feels polished without being stuffy, stylish without trying too hard, and themed without crossing into “someone glued a sombrero to the wall and called it immersive.”

Gran Destino Tower Barcelona Lounge

That is part of the Gran Destino magic in general. This tower has a way of making a moderate resort feel like it got promoted. You walk in, and suddenly everything is mood lighting, layered design, and “wait, why are more people not hanging out here?” It’s elegant, but not intimidating. Fancy, but in a way that still lets you show up a little park-tired and just melt into a chair with a drink.

Coronado Springs

And Barcelona Lounge specifically has that sweet-spot energy that a lot of Disney resort lounges never quite find. It works as a break. It works as a pre-dinner stop. It works as a “we’re not ready to go back to the room yet” place. It works if you want to feel like a person with refined taste, even if five hours earlier you were eating a snack in line and sweating through your shirt in a theme park queue.

We love all the detail

Even better, it feels tucked away enough to still qualify as a little discovery. Not secret, exactly, but definitely underappreciated. Coronado Springs has been sitting there this whole time like the valedictorian nobody invited to prom, and Barcelona Lounge is part of that whole underrated package.

Let’s get to the reason we’re all here: the snacks, the drinks, and the important work of deciding whether your money is being spent wisely or simply glamorously.

Food & Drinks

First up, we grabbed the Taste of Barcelona for $16. Think of this as a Spanish interpretation of trail mix. It has marinated Manchego, aceitunas, and Marcona almonds for $16. In practice, it arrived as three small bowls, one each for the olives, almonds, and cheese.

Taste of Barcelona

This is very much a lounge snack. Do not order this expecting a feast. Do not order this, thinking you have outsmarted dinner. This is a nibble, a graze, a “let’s have something with our drinks so nobody gets accidentally philosophical too fast” kind of plate.

Olives

That said, there was a lot to like here. The combination of the three bowls worked really well together, especially with drinks. The olives were fine, but not especially memorable, basically your standard bar olives with a little give and crunch. The almonds, though, were salty and flavorful, and the cheese was the standout. The Manchego the favorite part, with just the tiniest bit of spice adding a little something extra.

Manchego Cheese

But the secret weapon here was actually the Spanish torta that the bartender suggested pairing with the cheese. The torte is a large, thin cinnamon-sugar cracker that you break up and eat with the Manchego, and apparently, that is a flavor combination we never knew we always needed. Sweet and savory, crunchy and rich, the kind of pairing that makes you immediately stop talking long enough to process your life choices. In a good way.

Marcona Almonds

Now, the catch: value. $16 feels a bit steep for the amount of food you actually get. This is not a budget bite. This is a curated snack board for people who are mostly here for the atmosphere and would like a few elegant things to pick at while they sip.

So was it delicious? Yes. Was it generous? Not especially. Would I still order it in the right mood? Also yes.

Because sometimes “girl dinner, but make it hotel-lounge chic” is a valid life path.

To drink, we picked up the Build Your Own Gin Tonic for $18.50.

Barcelona Lounge leans hard into gin, and that is not an accident. This customizable cocktail comes with four tonic options: Mediterranean, Bitter Lemon, Light Cucumber, and Elderflower. The suggested option is the Elderflower tonic with fresh and floral gin styles.

Our Gin Tonic

So, we leaned into the recommendation and chose the Elderflower tonic, and after asking the bartender for guidance on a drier gin that might still work for someone who usually prefers sweeter drinks, we were steered toward Bombay Sapphire. That ended up being a very smart move. This drink landed as floral from the elderflower, botanical from the gin, and almost like a slightly citrusy soda, with lime helping keep everything bright and refreshing. The overall impression was light, a little sweet, a little citrusy, and something we’d absolutely order again.

And I love this as a lounge drink because it knows exactly what it is. It is not trying to knock you flat in three sips. It is not trying to be a sugar-bomb vacation cocktail wearing a garnish the size of a throw pillow. It is a drink for sitting. For lingering. For pretending you are the kind of person who uses words like “botanical” in everyday conversation.

Gorgina

Also, and this matters, this seems like a great entry point for people who do not normally go out of their way to order gin. So if gin usually makes you back away slowly, like it just started explaining itself too aggressively, this might still be worth a shot. The elderflower keeps it approachable. The citrus keeps it lively. And the whole thing sounds a little fancier than it drinks, which is honestly a perk.

Magic or Tragic?

Magic. Easily.

Not because every single bite here is the greatest thing you will ever eat at Disney World. Not because this is the cheapest snack-and-drink combo on property. And not because Barcelona Lounge is some giant hidden restaurant revelation that will replace your favorite dinner reservation.

It’s magic because it does exactly what a good resort lounge should do, and then adds style on top.

The Spread

The Build Your Own Gin Tonic is fun, customizable, and approachable even for someone who does not usually gravitate toward gin. The Taste of Barcelona is light, snacky, and pairs well with a lingering sit. The setting feels elevated. The whole experience makes Coronado Springs feel like the kind of resort you should be making more time for, not less.

Barcelona Lounge is not loud about how good it is. That’s part of the charm.

It doesn’t need fireworks. It doesn’t need a viral pastry. It doesn’t need people rope-dropping it like it’s a new attraction. It just needs you to give Coronado Springs a real chance. Because once you do, this whole resort starts to unfold in a very dangerous way. One good lounge becomes a whole afternoon. One quick drink becomes “Should we just eat here too?” One visit becomes you suddenly defending Coronado Springs to strangers on the internet like it’s your job.

Cheers!

Barcelona Lounge is stylish, relaxed, and just specific enough to feel special. The gin tonic is fresh and easy to enjoy. The snack plate is a little pricey, but tasty and well-suited to the setting. Most importantly, the whole experience taps into what makes Coronado Springs such an underrated gem in the first place: it’s beautiful, it’s grown-up, it’s full of great food and drink, and it deserves way more attention than it gets.

So yes, I’m planting my flag. If I had to get stranded at a Disney World resort, make it Coronado Springs. Preferably with a seat at Barcelona Lounge and something citrusy in my hand.

  1. We (2 adults) recently stayed in the tower and I loved it. All the options for restaurants, lounges, sports are a really nice feature and the resort is beautiful.
You should however mention this is a convention hotel for businesses and sports teams. When we were in the lounge in the afternoon waiting to leave, there had to be at least 75 convention attendees having their welcome party. Great for people watching but families walking through looked uncomfortable and it was very, very loud. The same was true at the rooftop bar on the evenings we were there. The place was filled with business travelers. Many teams playing at Wide World of Sports stay here too which can make the QS places crowded at peak times. Not a deal-breaker for us, but not a family oriented vibe either.
