Betcha didn’t know that there are some RULES you need to follow for your shoes in Magic Kingdom!

You’re going to walk thousands upon thousands of steps in a single day at that park, so choosing your shoes well is VITAL to your comfort. We’ve rounded up the biggest dos and don’ts for Magic Kingdom footwear.
Tomorrowland Is a Big Flood Point
The first tip we’ve got for you is actually a WARNING. Tomorrowland is a huge flood point in Magic Kingdom, where you’ll often find larger puddles just hanging out.

If it’s going to rain and you’re not prepared with the proper shoes, you might want to save this part of the park until after things dry up. Otherwise, you’ll be spending the rest of your day in soggy socks.

Avoid the Splash Pads
Speaking of wet socks, you’re going to want to avoid the splash pads if you don’t have a backup plan for soggy shoes. In Magic Kingdom, there are two splash pads. The first is the Casey Jr. Splash ‘n’ Soak Station in Storybook Circus.

The other splash pad area is what we refer to as the “leaky tikis” in Adventureland, across from Magic Carpets of Aladdin. While you’re there, you might want to avoid the spitting camel, too!

Wear Reusable Shoe Covers
Now, I know we’ve talked a lot about wet socks and soggy shoes already, but there’s a really great way to avoid that problem…reusable shoe covers! They may seem bizarre, but we promise they WORK. We’ve tested them ourselves on many days in the parks.

These Silicone Waterproof Shoe Covers have grips on the bottom and unzip on top to fit over your shoes. The seal is excellent, and we were able to wear them in heavy storms to keep our feet completely dry.

If You Don’t Want Shoe Covers, Wear Outdoor Sandals
Okay, maybe shoe covers aren’t your thing, or you don’t like having your feet contained in socks and sneakers. If so, we have several people on our team who prefer to wear some form of outdoor sandal to the parks. Tevas are one of the popular choices…

…but Quincy and I both prefer to wear Chacos! These Chaco Women’s Z1 Classic Sandals are designed with hikers, kayakers, and general outdoor activities in mind, so they’re great for the parks. They dry fairly quickly, so they work well on rainy days, too.
Don’t Forget the Socks!
Of course, when you’re choosing your footwear, socks matter too! We often recommend bringing a backup pair of socks if you’re wearing sneakers — you can change into them if your first pair gets wet or sweaty. It’s also nice to just put a fresh pair of socks on partway through the day; you’ll be surprised how much better it’ll make your feet feel.

But the REAL trick here is to get some compression socks to help your achy feet! This 3-Pack of Compression Socks for Women & Men on Amazon are a great option for your vacation, particularly if you’re doing multiple parks, running a runDisney race, or just need a little extra support.
Do NOT Break in Your Shoes in Disney World
Last but not least, we’re going to warn you — DO NOT break in your shoes in Disney World. If you get a new pair of sneakers before your trip (like the HOKA Women’s Clifton 10s that we tried out in the parks recently, pictured below), make sure to walk around in them a bit at home before you take them on vacation.

Breaking in new shoes in the parks is just a recipe for blisters, sore feet, and chafing galore. You’ll be regretting your choices halfway through the first day. Get used to your shoes first, then pack them in your suitcase.

If you follow these footwear guidelines, you’ll be feeling a lot better at the end of a long Magic Kingdom day!
