Wait, Does This Mean Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Is Going To Be BETTER Than Disney World?

Big changes are coming to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland, and they’re already raising a big question among Disney fans: Does this mean the California version of the land is about to outshine its Disney World counterpart?

Disneyland

Beginning April 29th, Disneyland will roll out a major shift to Galaxy’s Edge that expands the land’s timeline and brings together characters from multiple Star Wars eras. While there were no announcements for changes to come to Disney’s Hollywood Studios‘ Galaxy’s Edge, it has guests wondering if the changes could come later or if this means that the West Coast Star Wars land just became superior.

What’s Changing at Disneyland’s Galaxy’s Edge

The biggest update coming to Disneyland is a big shift in the original purpose of the land: Galaxy’s Edge is no longer locked into a single, sequel trilogy moment in the Star Wars timeline. Instead, beginning April 29th, guests will encounter characters and storylines spanning The Galactic Civil War, The New Republic era, The Age of the Resistance, and The First Order.

This means Batuu will now host characters from the Original Trilogy, Disney+ series like The Mandalorian and Ahsoka, and the sequel trilogy, all within the same land. Guests may spot Darth Vader searching for Luke Skywalker alongside Imperial Stormtroopers, while Luke himself roams the outpost seeking Force knowledge and kyber crystal lore. Leia Organa, Han Solo, and Chewbacca will also appear, joined by Ahsoka Tano, The Mandalorian, Grogu, Rey, R2-D2, and Kylo Ren (who is taking over the Disney Visa meet-and-greet location).

Beginning April 29, 2026, visitors to Batuu may find Darth Vader, Imperial Stormtroopers, and other iconic Star Wars characters inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland park in Anaheim, Calif., as the land expands its timeline to include more Star Wars eras. Disney is also releasing a new comic, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge — Echoes of the Empire, on April 22nd to help blend the timelines so the changes are understandable. What’s not changing? The rides, food, and core offerings remain the same. Rise of the Resistance, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, Oga’s Cantina, and the land’s projection shows will all continue as usual.

What’s Staying the Same at Disney World’s Galaxy’s Edge

For now, Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is not receiving these timeline updates. That means Disney World’s version of the land remains firmly rooted in its original concept. It’s a snapshot of Batuu set between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. Character appearances, story elements, and overall atmosphere are still designed to support that specific era.

Pros and Cons: Disneyland vs. Disney World

Disneyland Pros

  • More iconic characters across all of Star Wars timelines.
  • Greater flexibility for future updates and merchandise
  • Broader appeal to casual Star Wars fans

Disneyland Cons

  • The immersive land they worked hard to create is now losing some of that integrity
  • Potentially confusing for guests who care deeply about canon

Disney World Pros

  • Stronger, more cohesive storytelling
  • Clear narrative logic throughout the land
  • You can still meet Darth Vader and experience the original trilogy in the area at Star Tours, which is outside of Galaxy’s Edge.

Disney World Cons

  • Fewer character options inside Galaxy’s Edge
  • Less flexibility for new Star Wars content
  • Risk of feeling more stuck over time

So…Is Disneyland’s Galaxy’s Edge “Better”?

Not necessarily, just different. Disneyland’s changes prioritize flexibility, character variety, and long-term relevance, while Disney World’s version continues to focus on immersion and consistency. Which one is “better” ultimately depends on what kind of Star Wars experience you’re looking for. If you want to see as many iconic characters as possible in one place, Disneyland may soon have the edge. If you prefer a tightly woven story you can step into for an entire day, Disney World still delivers something special.
