We got some big news to share with all the Hunger Games fans out there!

Next year will mark the Second Quarter Quell…ok, not actually. However, next year will be the release of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, which is centred around it. There’s been a lot of buzz around the movie, and now there’s even more thanks to this massive news drop!
According to Variety, Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are expected to reprise their roles as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark in The Hunger Games prequel.

The new movie is based on the latest novel by Suzanne Collins, following the events of the 50th Hunger Games. The interesting thing is that the movie is set 24 years before Katniss and Peeta first entered the games as tributes. There isn’t any news on what their cameo roles will be; however, those who have read the book know that the beloved characters appear alongside Haymitch in the epilogue. So, Katniss and Peeta will most likely be in some sort of flash-forward.

Sunrise on the Reaping is set to be released on November 20th, 2026. Francis Lawrence, director of every Hunger Games movie since Catching Fire, is back to direct once again. The story of this new movie centers on Haymitch’s experience in the games when he was 16. Haymitch will be played by Joseph Zada.

Alongside him, Sunrise on the Reaping also stars Elle Fanning as a younger version of Effie Trinket, Ralph Fiennes as President Coriolanus Snow, Kieran Culkin as TV host Caesar Flickerman, and Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee.

Other notable names who have been cast into the movie include Kelvin Harrison Jr., Glenn Close, Maya Hawke, McKenna Grace, Billy Porter, Whitney Peak, Ben Wang, Molly McCann, Iona Bell, and Percy Daggs IV. We know what you’re thinking: that’s a STAR-STUDDED cast.

We’re looking forward to the new movie next year. Hopefully, we can get some more hints and teasers for what we can expect. The first teaser trailer has already been released — check it out!
