We won’t lie to you — when we see a new Disney film is getting ready to hit theaters, we’re buying our tickets WAY in advance (well, I am — gotta put my Regal Unlimited membership to good use!).

It’s our job to keep up with ALL the latest Disney news, and that includes which films are coming out in theaters —or MAYBE coming out in theaters. Disney sometimes teases movie news to us, but it’s not at a fully confirmed stage yet, so we’re unsure if it’ll actually happen. Despite its unknown future, these are ALL the movies Disney has teased to us so far (as well as some of the confirmed ones we’re really looking forward to)!
Teased Films
There’s been a lot of talk around potential Disney films that could happen, one of the most notable being The Hunt for Ben Solo, which was shelved by Disney back in 2021. According to Variety, it was recently revealed that the film idea was pitched by Adam Driver himself, who played Ben Solo, as well as director Steven Soderbergh. The film would “follow Ben Solo on a quest for redemption, shortly after the events of ‘The Rise of Skywalker.'” After the interview revealed Disney didn’t greenlight the idea, fans have begun rallying, flying a plane over Disney Studios with “Save The Hunt for Ben Solo” on it and creating a billboard on 1500 Broadway, between 43rd and 44th, urging Disney to rethink their decision.

In other movie news, Deadline has reported that nearly 30 years after her last appearance as Lt. Ellen Ripley in the Alien franchise, Sigourney Weaver is considering returning. At New York Comic Con recently, she revealed that she’s never particularly felt drawn to returning to the character, but she recently “read some pages of a screenplay that appeals to her,” written by Walter Hill, the creator of the franchise. When speaking on stage, Weaver said, “But what Walter has written is, first of all, seems so true to me, as very much about the society that would incarcerate someone who has tried to help mankind, but she’s a problem to them, so she’s sort of tucked away.” Could you imagine if this were greenlit and we actually got ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter back in Disney World?

Disney Prince fans, rejoice (or…maybe not?), because Deadline has also reported that Chris Hemsworth is in talks to play Prince Charming in a new Prince Charming film, which Paul King is set to direct. No plot details are known about the film so far, but insiders have shared that the film will not specifically be linked to Cinderella. Thor as a Disney Prince? We have a lot of thoughts we need to sort through.

Disney also recently announced that they’ve acquired the rights to the popular children’s book series “Impossible Creatures” and will be working on making it a movie franchise. Katherine Rundell, author of the series, will be turning the first two films into screenplays herself, and while there are five planned books in the series, only two are out right now. In a statement about the decision, Disney CEO Bob Iger said, “When I read ‘Impossible Creatures,’ I knew it belonged here at Disney. I was immediately drawn into the vibrant world Katherine imagined and the possibilities of what we could do together with this story. Written by Katherine herself, these movies are in the best of hands with our Walt Disney Studios team, and I can’t wait to see this tale brought to the screen.”

Tangled fans will also (potentially) be thrilled to know that the discussions around a potential live-action film continue to develop, as Scarlett Johansson is circling the role of Mother Gothel. The live-action film would be directed by Michael Gracey, and the script, based on the original 2010 animated film, was written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. Originally, this project was pulled back a bit in April 2025 after seeing the live-action Snow White not do well in theaters, but it appears Disney may be gearing up to give the greenlight after all.

Whew, those are all very exciting, but their futures are still up in the air. If you want to know what’s set in stone to be up and coming soon, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Here’s a list of films that are CONFIRMED to be on their way by Disney, but keep in mind that the further away the release date/year, the longer Disney has to change their minds and pull the plug anyway.
