The Shoe Rule Everyone Ignores in Disney World

It’s no secret that Walt Disney World has a lot of rules. There are official rules that are on the books, and unofficial “rules” and guidelines. One of the rules has to do with shoes, even though an alarmingly low number of Disney guests follow.

Oh No

Over my 30+ years attending Disney parks, I’ve seen plenty of footwear trends come and go. Sports sneakers, Converse, Vans, sandals, flip flops, and our topic today: CROCS, while debates can be had whether CROCS — and their Jibitz — are fashionable, there is a real danger to wearing them in certain places. In fact, Disney technically has a rule about them.

Believe it or not, wearing CROCS on escalators is quite dangerous. That’s right, it’s not simply an urban legend. There have been several instances, including at Walt Disney World, of CROCS getting stuck in escalators.

Whoops

In fact, CROCS are technically banned on Walt Disney World escalators, though very few guests actually follow this policy.

From our friends at DisneyFoodBlog

Of course, you can still wear them in the parks. You are just encouraged to take the stairs! We have personally seen Crocs stuck on Disney escalators more than once in the parks. So it is a real issue, folks.

So, if you don’t want to worry about your Crocs getting stuck, what similar kinds of shoes are best to wear at Walt Disney World? Well, we have our thoughts:

First off, there are these trusty Teva Sandals.

Emma in her Tevas!

These athletic sandals feature a hook-and-loop closure and a contoured EVA footbed and midsole. They’ll provide a cool and breathable option to wear at your Disney hotel. A MUST after a day traversing the parks.

These Chacos are another sandal option.

Available in multiple colors, these sandals feature polyester jacquard webbing and an adjustable and durable high-tensile webbing heel riser, which is an injection-molded ladder lock buckle.

And, of course, our FAVORITE Disney World Shoes, the Hoka Clifton 10s.

We love these!

We have these orange, but they’re available in a litany of colors, all of which are breathable and padded, a winning combination for walking through the Magic Kingdom. We love these because they are reliable, comfortable, and aren’t heavy at all!
