Disney Files 2 NEW Permits for ‘Monsters Inc.’ Land at Hollywood Studios

It’s been months since we said goodbye to Muppets Courtyard in Hollywood Studios. The construction walls have been up, and we’ve been hearing Disney hard at work, tearing up the space and turning it into Monstropolis, home to all things Monsters, Inc.

While we don’t have an opening timeline yet, Disney filed two new permits that show what they’re working on. Let’s take a look and see if there are any clues as to what’s coming to the new land.

The first permit is for the old Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano. This was the large sit-down restaurant that served familiar Italian favorites. The permit isn’t specific but says they’re filing for “general construction.”

While nothing has been confirmed, the concept art supports the idea that Harryhausen’s, the Japanese restaurant in the Monsters, Inc. movie, will be coming to Hollywood Studios’ Monstropolis. It’s been my dream since I was a kid to eat at the restaurant, so I’m crossing my fingers that it happens!

The second permit is for PizzeRizzo, just next door to Mama Melrose’s. The permit was also filed for “general construction.” In concept art, it looks like this will continue to be a restaurant, so we’re hoping it stays a quick-service location for some quick eats.

What is confirmed for Monstropolis? One attraction that Disney has shared the most for is the hanging door roller coaster. Remember when Mike and Sulley raced through the doors to help save Boo? We’ll get to live that in real life in Disney’s first-ever suspended coaster.

A new land themed to Pixar Animation Studios’ “Monsters, Inc.” is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Taking place after the events of the film, Monstropolis need humans’ laughter to power the city. Guests can even ride on a door like Mike and Sully in the iconic scene from the film with Disney’s first-ever suspended coaster.

They’ve been sharing a lot about the technology, and your seat will actually be picked up like the doors are in the movie!

There will also be a Monsters, Inc. show, but we don’t know any details. It’s coming to the old MuppetVision theater, from the look in the concept art and in the pictures, the theater is called “The Glob”, based on the famous Globe Theatre.

Every day, I hope Disney announces an opening date because I am just so excited to run down the streets of Monstropolis and live out my childhood dream. Make sure you keep following AllEars for more!
