A popular cruise line has just changed how you pay, and we’re sorry to say it, but you might not like the change.

A popular cruise line, Virgin Voyages, just debuted a reimagined fare model. Let’s take a look at all the details.

Virgin Voyages is entering a new era of the cruise line — they just launched their fourth ship, Brilliant Lady, and have been “delivering record growth with sold-out voyages and becoming the go-to brand for new-to-cruise Sailors”, according to Virgin Voyages. As adult-only cruises continue to gain popularity, Virgin Voyages has emerged as the top option for travelers seeking a holiday without the little ones.

As Virgin Voyages continues to be a staple in the cruise industry, the cruise line made a bold move with a whole new playbook for how vacations are booked. Beginning on October 7th, 2025, Virgin Voyages will debut VoyageFair Choices — a new fare model created directly in response to Sailor and First Mate feedback. Virgin Voyages claimed they don’t “disrupt for disruption’s sake; every move is a strategic decision designed to make the experience better.”

At the core of the system are four goals:

  • To give Sailors better price transparency
  • Make fares easier to compare across the industry
  • Offer more flexible and competitive options for different budgets
  • Respond to the Sailors’ and advisors’ call for more choice

“Travelers expect clarity and choice from airlines and hotels, and Virgin Voyages is the first to bring that same simplicity and pricing model to cruising,” claimed the CEO of Virgin Voyages, Nirmal Saverimuttu. “This isn’t about gimmicks or fine print. We’re making it easier to book a voyage with confidence while knowing that once you’re onboard, the experience is unmistakably Virgin: elevated and unforgettable.”

The new fare model has three distinct pricing tiers for the Sea Terrace and cabins below. Each model is set to give Sailors better flexibility in how they go about booking. These are the models:

  • Base fare – This is the most value-driven option. This fare offers a new Basic WiFi tier for one device per Sailor — which is designed specifically for social media, messaging, and light browsing. Dining reservations open 15 days before sailing. It’s said to be the ideal choice for Sailors who know their plans and prefer to save money. This fare is non-refundable!
  • Essential fare – This fare remains closest to what Sailors use today. It includes Classic WiFi for one device per Sailor — designed for social media, messaging, browsin,g and audio calling. This option includes a 45-day dining reservation window, as well as flexibility to adjust your voyage dates using a Future Voyage Credit. Name changes are allowed for Sailors Two through Four. It’s a familiar option with a little more flexibility.
  • Premium fare – This option offers the most perks and freedom. For the first time, Sea Terrace categories and below will enjoy a 60-day dining reservation window, which was previously reserved for suites only. Premium also includes Premium WiFi for two devices per Sailor with access to streaming and video. There will also be an included Bar Tab (drinks credit) and access to a priority support line for pre-voyage booking.

VoyageFair Choices is also bringing a major upgrade to RockStar and Mega RockStar Quarters. Dining reservations will now be open 120 days before sailing. This gives Sailors the chance to put together their onboard experience well in advance.

Also, Virgin Voyages is now displaying service gratuities as a separate line item at the time of your booking. It used to be bundled into the fare; however, now these contributions will be shown clearly so Sailors are aware of how they were applied. The total cost of your voyage will not change! Sailors can pre-pay at a discounted rate of $20 per Sailor per night or settle onboard at $22 per Sailor per night. There are no additional hidden charges or surprise gratuities.

Virgin Voyages pointed out that “every fare delivers more than $1,000 USD in value.” Your cruise experience will deliver on world-class dining, unlimited group fitness, unlimited WiFi, soda, still and sparkling water, and one-of-a-kind entertainment. Sailors have the freedom to design their adventure as they please! For more travel news and updates, be sure to stay tuned to AllEars.
