I Flew 8,798 Miles Just To See Disney’s Robotic Monkey…And I’d Do It Again

Hong Kong Disneyland is full of incredible attractions, dining options, character meet and greets, and so much more.

I just traveled there to celebrate the park’s 20th Anniversary, and you know I had to bring some fun Disneybounds for the adventure! One of my favorite characters in the whole park (other than Duffy and Linabell, of course) is a very mischievous monkey in Mystic Manor — I basically flew over 8,000 miles for him, and I totally would again.

Mystic Manor is Hong Kong Disneyland’s version of Haunted Mansion, but it’s hard to compare the two of them, because they are genuinely so different. It’s more of a light-hearted fantasy set inside an old Victorian mansion. Here, guests ride through a stately residence that is now a museum possessed by the magic of a mysterious music box. And who releases the magic in the music box? None other than Albert!

This ride is trackless, making it more impressive, and the soundtrack was written by Danny Elfman, who also composed the music for The Nightmare Before Christmas.

The manor is owned by Lord Henry Mystic, an eccentric adventurer, explorer and collector of art, and the Balinese music box makes inanimate objects spring to life with its enchanting music dust. And come alive they do! You’ll see tons of Musical Instruments, Mediterranean Antiquities, Egyptian Antiquities, Tribal Arts, Arms and Armor, and so much more.

I love that Albert, just being his curious self, is what brings the manor’s artifacts to life. Sure, he does something he isn’t supposed to, but that’s what makes it even more fun, because how many of us haven’t done that? It’s whimsical, fun, and so unique, I can never get enough.

Albert also travels with you throughout the ride, watching as the dust affects everything around the manor, so it’s not that you only see him once and then he’s gone. He truly is the catalyst for the ride, and you get him as a buddy the whole way through.
