Traveling to and from Disney World is about to get easier for families!

If you’re flying to Orlando, you’re most likely headed to the Orlando International Airport. We love the special carpet and hearing Mayor Buddy Dyer welcome us to Florida, but what we don’t love are the long TSA lines you see at this airport. Now, a new change at the airport might help avoid more of those frustrating moments.
If you’re traveling with small children, this news is for you! Family-friendly TSA lines have debuted at the Orlando International Airport (MCO). According to the Orlando Sentinel, these new lines are part of a program aiming to minimize stress at the airport.

The new lines focus on flyers who are traveling with strollers, diaper bags, and more items that come along with small travelers. Michael Silata, assistant federal security director for the Orlando International Airport, said, “We do our best to try to really ease their stresses. We do recognize that Orlando is a very, very big family-destination airport. It is our commitment to give them the best travel experience possible.”

To go through these family-friendly lines, you will need children with you, ages 12 and under. You won’t need to register in advance to use the line. In addition to these new lines, families are also eligible for a discount on TSA PreCheck thanks to the TSA’s “Families on the Fly” program.

Yes, this is aimed to help relieve the stress on families, but it can help those without kids as well! This new program is to help reduce regular security lines as well. With the launch of the program, security lines have seen a drop of 10 minutes off of wait times on average. Silata continued to say, “You are not seeing some larger-sized items in those lanes — for example, the strollers…That, in effect, eases the travel experience for travelers going through the other lanes as well.”

Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, Southern California’s John Wayne Airport, and Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu are also participating in the Families on the Fly campaign with TSA planning to expand the program to other airports in the future. These new lines also come with other major TSA changes, like the fact that you don’t have to remove your shoes during security anymore.

These new lines are available at all three terminals. We’re thrilled to see how this will impact travel for families when heading to the theme parks. As always, be sure to keep following AllEars for more travel news and updates.
