Disney Quietly Makes Another Change to New DAS System, Extending Registration Window

Disney changed its Disability Access Service (DAS) system in May 2024. When the changes were first announced, they were met with some backlash and mixed reactions.

Since then, Disney has continued to make small changes here and there to tweak the Disability Access Service program. Now, Disney has made another quiet change to the system that may make it easier for individuals looking to register for the service.

Disney just changed the wording about DAS registration on its website. The updated language refers to when an individual can apply for the Disability Access Service. Now, instead of needing to register a maximum of 30 days in advance of your trip, you can register 60 days in advance of your trip.

The wording on the website used to read, “Speak with a Cast Member via live video chat to determine eligibility as soon as 30 days in advance of a park visit.” Now, the wording has changed from “30 days” to “60 days.”

Does this necessarily change who may or may not be eligible? No, not exactly, but it does help families who may be denied the service by allowing them more time to decide how else they can accommodate a family member on their trip or help that person prepare for the parks.

This isn’t the only recent change Disney has quietly made to their service either — just a few days ago, Disney changed the wording on who DAS is for slightly, potentially making it more accessible. The wording now states, “DAS is intended to accommodate those Guests who, due to a developmental disability like autism or similar, are unable to wait in a conventional queue for an extended period of time.” Previously, the word “only” was in the sentence, indicating that “DAS is intended to accommodate ONLY those Guests who, due to a developmental disability…”

We don’t know what this change means for DAS agents that determine who qualifies for the service, but clearly, there are some small changes going on behind the scenes right now. We’ll be sure to update you on the latest, so stay tuned to AllEars.
