Did Disney Just CANCEL All 5 of These Projects?

We love going to the movie theater, snacking on some popcorn, and enjoying the newest Disney film.

In 2024, we were able to enjoy Moana 2, Inside Out 2, and several more shows and movies on Disney+. But, sometimes the films just don’t make it to the audiences. 5 Disney projects were announced and now we’re wondering if they will ever get made!

In 2022, we reported that Figment is getting a feature film by Seth Rogen, Dan Hernandez, and Benji Samit. Rogan’s company Point Grey is heading the film while Hernandez and Samit are set to write it together.

Since then, we have heard nothing about the project. We could see fans loving this movie, so we hope for the Figment fans, they end up making it.

Also in 2022, we told you about a Society of Explorers and Adventurers movie that was in the works. The movie was reportedly based on the secret fictional organization, SEA, which can be linked to rides and attractions throughout Disney parks.

The movie is set to be written by Qui Nguyen, the filmmaker behind Disney’s next animated film — Strange World. And it gets even better because Ryan Reynold’s Maximum Effort organization is set to produce the film. Things were pretty quiet about this, especially during the writer’s strikes. But we heard some good news in 2024.

The Hollywood Reporter interviewed 20th Television president, Karey Burke. The interviewer asked, “Moore started an overall deal with Disney back in 2021 and one of the first projects he took on was The Society of Explorers and Adventurers for Disney+. Where do things stand with that?” Burke answered that “It is also still in development”. She also shared that she saw a draft and she “hopes to be delivering that to Disney Branded Television pretty soon“.

This is exciting news and we hope to hear more about it soon!

Believe it or not, a Space Mountain film has been in the works for years. Originally Joby Harold of Safehouse Pictures was writing the film, but now it has changed hands. Also involved in the project are Jonathan Eirich and Ryan Halprin from Rideback (the banner behind Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series) and Tory Tunnell of Safehouse Pictures.

In 2024 we got an update that Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec, the team behind Amazon’s Citadel and showrunners of Netflix’s adaptation of Cowboy Bepop, have been tapped to write the Disney’s live-action film. We are interested to see what the story will be behind the movie and we hope to hear more news about it soon!

In 2024, told you that Darren Lemke, who wrote the Goosebumps movie, is writing a Club 33 script. Club 33 is a very exclusive (and expensive) spot in Disneyland. Members pay thousands of dollars to join and pay annual dues, and you must know a member to make a reservation to dine at Club 33. Recently, it was announced that Disney has asked Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit, who are best known as the writers of Pokemon: Detective Pikachu, to rewrite the script for Club 33. Luckily, this film sounds like it is still happening.

Back in 2022, we told you that a Big Thunder Mountain film was in the works. Disney had shared that the directors behind Disney+’s Hawkeye, Bert, and Bertie, will be directing the feature. We haven’t heard any other news about this one just yet, but we are still hopeful! Who knows, maybe the large refurbishment project of the ride will inspire the film to be made!
