FINALLY! Disney Just FIXED One of the Biggest Problems With Rise of the Resistance!

Since Rise of the Resistance opened in 2019 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios (and in 2020 at Disneyland), there have been a few elements to the ride that haven’t been working as they were designed. Translation: there are some parts of the ride that don’t work.

Rise of the Resistance

One of those ride issues involved the giant cannons towards the end of the ride. You’re supposed to be dodging cannons, bobbing and weaving through the scene as you race to an escape pod, but the cannons have been stationary for a long time (in both Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disneyland). That’s CHANGED, though — the cannons are moving again in Disneyland!

If our Star Wars memory serves, these are called “Turbolaser Cannons,” and you’ll find them at the end of the ride. Again, at the ride’s inception (in both parks), they would move back and forth as they fired. Your ride vehicle (piloted by a droid) moves forward and backward to avoid being hit by the moving cannons. It’s pretty thrilling when it works!

Rise of the Resistance

Well, as the cannons haven’t moved for YEARS, those who experienced the attraction when they used to work may feel like something is missing. On the other hand, guests who have never experienced them moving don’t really know what they’re missing. Now, though, the cannons are officially MOVING AGAIN over in Disneyland!

Disney never revealed why these cannons stopped moving in the first place, but there was a rumor that the cannons caused technical difficulties with the trackless ride system. This may have caused more stops and shutdowns, though Disney has not confirmed this theory.

Regardless, we’re excited to see them working again in Disneyland and hope a similar change will be on the way to Disney World as well! The moving cannons really add to the immersion and make you feel like you’re in the middle of an EPIC battle. It’s pretty incredible!
