Universal’s latest Epic Universe update has a monstrous appetite (and a few terrifying animatronics to go along with it)!

We’ve been buzzing over the news of Epic Universe’s official opening date, booking our hotel stays and tickets, and even keeping track of the construction progress and testing in each of its lands. And while those are great, we’ve yet to see something that really ups the ante for what you’re going to pay for your experience that we have not seen before from the theme park giant. But all that’s about to change because Universal has just released a sneak peek at what they’re calling their “most terrifying attraction yet.”
We’re constantly pouring over any and ever detail we can scour up about Universal’s newest theme park, Epic Universe. So when we ran across an update in Entertainment Weekly about one of Epic Universe’s attractions, our ears perked up! In the exclusive, Universal has offered a unique peek into some of the animatronics of classic Universal monsters you’ll find in Dark Univere’s highly anticipated attraction, Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment.

This ride will take its visitors on a thrilling journey through the catacombs of Frankenstein Manor, where Dr. Victoria Frankenstein (great-great-granddaughter of Henry Frankenstein) has conducted several secret, twisted experiments. When things go awry while attempting to put on a dazzling display for her new guests, you’re forced to watch helplessly as Dr. Victoria Frankenstein attempts to regain control over the monsters she’s inadvertently unleashed.

This ride is said to be one of the scariest attractions Universal has ever built, and just based on first glances, they’re not playing around with that statement. This exclusive look peeled back the curtain to give us a glance at “some of the most visceral, powerful, and fast-moving animated figures ever created” for any theme park attraction.
While this peek only gives us a look at a few of the monsters you’ll find throughout this attraction, Universal proudly totes that you’ll experience a total of 14 animated figures during your ride. Impressive animatronic figures of notable Universal classic monsters like Dracula, the Wolf Man, the Creature from the Black Lagoon, Frankenstein’s Monster and more will debut with the ride’s opening, with some of these astonishing animatronics standing nine feet tall and weighing over 800 pounds.

You’ll first encounter Frankenstein’s Monster in the ride’s queue, where he will roam around Dr. Victoria Frankenstein’s lab during the pre-show portion of the attraction.

You won’t be able to miss Dracula! It’s said that you might find him at several points throughout the attraction and as the leader of the band of sinister creatures and monsters, he’s certainly the most dangerous of all!

Just when you think it might be safe, your ride vehicle will bring you “within inches” of the Wolf Man’s claws and blood-drawing fangs! Watch out for his swift movements as you zoom past!

“Gill-man” or you may know him best as the Creature from the Black Lagoon, will rise from the depths to join his fellow monsters in terrorizing riders during your visit to Dr. Frankenstein’s manor.

Ok — you’re either in one of two camps here at this point. You’re either totally on the edge of your seat in anticipation of your first experience on this ambitious ride or have fallen out of your seat and fainted just from this bit that Universal has offered to share about it so far. Either way, it seems Universal is willing to back up the excitement they’ve built for this attraction and the park as a whole by offering innovative technologies in high thrill attractions.
