One of Our FAVORITE Imagineers Is Hosting a Special Event Near Disney World

Attention those in the Orlando area! You can see a Disney Legend in person on October 5th!

Disney Imagineering icon and freshly minted official Disney Legend Joe Rohde will host a special event near Disney World. All proceeds will benefit a good cause.

According to a post on Rohde’s Instagram account, the event will take place at the University of Central Florida’s Fairwinds Alumni Center on Saturday, October 5th from 1PM to 4PM.

The event, which is similar to an event Rohde staged in California previously, will consist of a screening of Rohde’s 2015 documentary The Leopard in the Land, followed by a presentation on “art, creativity and exploration” and Q & A session with Rohde.

Tickets for the event cost $100, and include admission as well as a signed print of a Joe Rohde painting. All proceeds from the event will go to funding a snow leopard study expedition Rohde hopes to lead in 2025. According to Rohde, his aim is to raise funds to “support my scientific partners, fellow members of The Explorers Club. We are conducting a collaborative art, science and culture project that integrates our various fields of study.”

If you cannot attend but wish to donate to the expedition, you can do so here as long as you notate your donation with “Joe Rohde Expedition.”

Joe Rohde is one of the biggest names in the history of Walt Disney Imagineering. His career with the company spanned from 1980 through January of 2021, and saw the designer spearhead countless Disney projects including Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout, Pandora: The World of Avatar, the Aulani resort in Hawaii, and arguably most importantly of all: Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park from its conception. Outside of his Imagineering work, Rohde is an accomplished conservationist and artist.

Rohde became well-known to Disney fans thanks to his frequent appearances in documentaries and other media, as well as his unique appearance and well-known earrings.

At the 2024 D23 Ultimate Fan Event, Rohde was officially honored by the company as a Disney Legend. At the time of his induction, he said in part, “We each have something to contribute to the betterment of the world.”
