Universal is currently building not one, but TWO brand-new theme parks. You may have heard a bit about Epic Universe in Orlando, but a new theme park is also coming to Texas!

Universal is investing in their theme parks with both of these parks. While Epic Universe is planned to have five themed lands that include numerous thrilling attractions, shops, dining, and hotels, Universal’s other new theme park is being built for a bit different audience.
A new Universal theme park called Universal Kids Resort is coming to Frisco, Texas. This theme park will offer a unique theme park experience that is tailored specifically to kids. It will be a smaller scale theme park to “inspire the unbridled creativity of kids through play, discovery and imagination, with a different look and feel from existing destinations.”

This new theme park will include lots of family-friendly attractions, themed lands, interactive shows, and character meet and greets. However, there are a couple reasons that Universal’s newest theme park may not be the best choice for you.

First off, this new theme park is designed for kids. From the attractions to the show, designers are crafting each part of this park for kids. While we think that is great and we are excited to see what the designers come up with, if you are not traveling with kids this park may not be your best choice. Of course, even if you aren’t traveling with kids, you can still check out the new park, but you may find that there aren’t a lot of activities geared towards adults.

Since the park is designed for kids, you also won’t see attractions such as VelociCoaster or a Hulk. These are high-speed, thrilling, roller coasters that require riders to be a certain height. Since this park is being built with kids in mind, there likely won’t be any rides with high height requirements. That means that you likely won’t see VelociCoaster 2.0 inside of Universal Kids Resort.

As well, this new theme park is being built on a smaller scale. Universal Kids Resort is about a quarter of the size of the Orlando parks and covers about 97 acres of land. The theme park is intended to be a 1-2 day destination, not a week long vacation. While there will be plenty to explore for a day or two, this would not be a good option if you are looking for somewhere that is going to have enough to spend a week or two there.

Additionally, if you are someone who likes to have a variety of hotels to choose from, this new theme park won’t fit the bill. Universal Kids Resort will only have one 300-room themed hotel. Only having one hotel is likely a good choice for this smaller scale theme park, but that means you won’t have many options in regards to accommodations. You will still be able to find other options in the area, but only one hotel will actually be operated by Universal.

Finally, this new resort is being built in Frisco, Texas, which is to the north of Dallas. There are lots of local attractions to explore such as the National Videogame Museum or the Texas Sculpture Garden, but you won’t have the same options as somewhere like Orlando or Anaheim. Orlando boasts a multitude of theme parks including Universal, Disney World, and SeaWorld, as well as lots of other attractions, restaurants, and shopping. Frisco does not have the same amount of entertainment options as other theme park cities do, which may mean that Universal Kids Resort may not be the best option for you.

Universal’s newest theme park is exciting and will be a great options for travelers with kids. However, we went over a few reasons why this new park may not be the right choice for you.
