If you’ve ever desired Disney-themed living, here’s your chance!
Sadly, you can’t live in EPCOT as Walt Disney had originally intended, but you can live in the next best thing! Storyliving by Disney has a NEW residential community in the works and we have the latest update!
Storyliving by Disney bills itself as “vibrant new neighborhoods that are infused with our [Disney’s] special brand of magic,” and it was recently announced that Asteria, a Storyliving by Disney community in North Carolina was on the way. While we’re still fresh off the announcement, we have seen some potential building updates!
Asteria will be a 1,500-acre, 4,000-residency community built just outside of Raleigh. It’s designed to be close enough to the major city while offering small-town living. Development of the community may not come without compromise, however.
According to The News & Observer, the non-profit citizens’ group Haw River Assembly is urging Disney and its development partners to consider environmental preservation measures.
The community is being built within the 8,500-acre Chatham Park, and the environmental conservation requests include Disney protecting the existing tree canopy, building larger stormwater basins that exceed Chatham Park’s existing required minimums, and active prevention of local water pollution.
The Haw River Assembly has not come out against Asteria and has instead taken a tone of advisory, insisting that, “It would be a smart move for Disney to incorporate stakeholder input on the front end, to really understand the landscape and community and the values of this community that they are moving into,” said Haw Riverkeeper, Emily Sutton. The issue of conservation will likely continue as Disney develops the land and begins to sell properties in 2027.
Asteria would be the second Storyliving by Disney community. Cotino, Disney’s first Storyliving community, located in Rancho Mirage, California, is set to roll out this year.
