If you’re heading to Orlando in the coming months, you’ll need to be prepared for all kinds of weather!
So far, December has been marked by days ranging in temperature from the high 50s to the low 80s, and if you’re coming in from out of town, that means you have to pack a wide variety of clothes in your suitcase. But one thing you may not have thought about is that some parks CLOSE when it’s cold!
Universal Orlando’s third theme park is called Volcano Bay, and it’s a water park. All the attractions are outdoors and involve water effects, so when it gets a little too chilly, they have to close the park down. And that’s exactly what happened today, on Monday, December 11th.
When we pulled up to the parking plaza at Universal Orlando this morning, we were greeted with a sign warning us of Volcano Bay’s closure. It’s 50 degrees outside in Orlando this morning, which isn’t exactly water park weather!
Universal has cut back on Volcano Bay’s park hours in the winter months, so there are several days in the next few weeks where the park will be closed (you can find those dates in the online calendar). However, the park is still subject to weather-related closures on the days that it’s listed as open.
If you’re heading across the city to Disney World, Blizzard Beach water park is currently showing hours for the rest of the week. However, this could also change depending on the weather.
UPDATE: After publishing, Disney’s Blizzard Beach announced a closure for today as well.
Just keep this in mind when planning your visit from now until March. And make sure to stay up to date on the park hours on the website!
