For years, the company stayed tight-lipped about what was coming to the new park. However, they’ve recently begun divulging new details about Epic Universe and its lands that have us even more excited!

©Universal

Below we’ve covered everything we know officially about Epic Universe.  As we get closer and closer to the opening and NBCUniversal releases more details, we’ll be sure to update you so you know exactly how to plan for your day in this new theme park and experience all it has to offer!

Universal App

New technology is being developed all the time, meaning your next park experience could be bigger and better than the last. We anticipate that there will be many interactive elements in Epic Universe (plus there is a general trend now of parks utilizing smartphone planning apps), so we encourage you to download the Universal Orlando Resort App to your mobile device well in advance of your trip and get familiar with it.

©Universal Orlando

When Epic Universe opens, we anticipate a few attractions may require a Virtual Queue and many of the restaurants will likely have Mobile Order. There may also be other enhanced interactive aspects of the Epic Universe experience that the app will be involved in, so it’s best to become familiar with it now!

SUPER NINTENDO WORLD

One of the most anticipated elements of Epic Universe is Super Nintendo World.

©Universal

Universal Studios Japan opened the first Super Nintendo World in 2021, and shortly after that (in 2023), Universal Studios Hollywood opened its own version of Super Nintendo World. Both locations have received rave reviews from fans and guests (even of the non-gamer variety). After much speculation, Universal Destinations & Experiences finally confirmed in February 2023 that Super Nintendo World would be included in Epic Universe, referring to it as the “worst-kept secret in history.”

So many blocks!

Epic Universe’s Super Nintendo World will be quite similar to the Universal Studios Japan and Hollywood versions, which provide essentially a blueprint for comparison.

We had a PERFECT DAY at Super Nintendo World in California, and you can watch our video about it right here!

Super Nintendo World in Epic Universe will feature the same self-contained, dual-level footprint, featuring architecture straight out of the Super Mario games and interactive elements that allow guests to collect coins, unlock special areas, and compete in various mini-games featuring Nintendo and Mario characters including Koopa Troopa, a Piranha Plant, a Goomba, Thwomp, Bob-Omb, and  Bowser Jr. Certain activities will be enhanced with the use of a Power-Band accessory.

Super Nintendo World portal

Note that at Epic Universe, Super Nintendo World will have 2 lands within it — Super Mario Land (with the Mario Kart and Yoshi attractions — as well as other experiences) and Donkey Kong Country (with the Donkey Kong coaster and more).

ATTRACTIONS

MARIO KART: BOWSER’S CHALLENGE

The Mario Kart ride is likely similar to (if not identical to) the one that is in Super Nintendo World in Japan and Hollywood.

Let’s-A-GO!

The ride uses practical sets and augmented reality images shown using special glasses to bring guests directly into the world of the popular video game series.

Character Outfits

On this ride, you’ll “steer through iconic courses alongside Mario, Luigi and Princess Peach…collect digital coins and throw shells to try to defeat Team Bowser and win the Golden Cup.” One interesting thing to note is that there are multiple outcomes, so you may get a different experience each time you ride.

Collect Coins

The height requirement for this ride is 40 inches. Those under 48 inches must ride with a supervising companion.

Goggles for the Mario Kart Ride

You can check out our experience at the Hollywood version of this attraction at the link below!

MINE-CART MADNESS

Mine-Cart Madness is a Donkey Kong-themed coaster coming to the Donkey Kong Country side of Super Nintendo World.

©Universal

This is similar to the Donkey Kong coaster being built for Universal Studios Japan. The Japan version is set to open in 2024.

©Universal

Universal shares, “It’s up to you to help Donkey Kong protect the Golden Banana on Mine-Cart Madness™. Enter the majestic Golden Temple, board your mine cart and take off in this thrilling family coaster. Speeding through the mine, you’ll appear to jump across gaps in the track and perform other eye-popping feats from the Donkey Kong Country video games.”

©Universal (Universal Studios Japan)

The height requirement is 36 inches, and children under 48 inches must be accompanied by a supervising companion. Also, hand-held infants are not permitted.

YOSHI’S ADVENTURE

A Yoshi’s Adventure attraction is also being constructed for Epic Universe!

©Universal

This is a slow-moving family omnimover ride that takes guests around the land’s second level in ride vehicles shaped like Yoshi.

You’ll be taking a ride with Yoshis and searching for glowing eggs. According to Universal, “On Yoshi’s Adventure™ you’ll weave your way through iconic Mushroom Kingdom landscapes, encountering many familiar characters and spotting hidden colored eggs along your journey.”

©Universal (Japan)

The height requirement is 34 inches, and those under 48 inches must go with a supervising companion.

Character Meet-and-Greets

You’ll have the chance to meet characters and snap pictures with Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Toad. The lines for some of these could get long, so just prepare for that!

The Duo!

Still, the lines might be worth it to snap a photo with these iconic friends.

Click here for more details about the character meet-and-greets we experienced in Super Nintendo World in Universal Studios Hollywood!

Interactive Experiences

Guests will also be able to experience the various interactive elements we’ve seen in other versions of Super Nintendo World. These elements let guests collect coins, unlock special areas, and compete in various other mini-games featuring Nintendo and Mario characters including Koopa Troopa, a Piranha Plant, a Goomba, Thwomp, Bob-Omb, and  Bowser Jr.

©Universal

While some of the fun is accessible to all guests, you can “level up” your experience by buying a Power-Up Band which lets you enhance your play.

Universal explains, “With the Power-Up Band, guests can collect digital coins by punching ? Blocks and playing interactive activities; collect digital stamps on attractions; earn digital keys to unlock an exclusive showdown against Bowser Jr.; and discover other hidden surprises. Guests can also access Leaderboard screens in SUPER NINTENDO WORLD to see where they rank amongst fellow guests.”

Interactive Element

The Power-Up Bands typically cost $40.

Power-Up Bands

The bands come in a variety of designs so you can rep your favorite character.

Throughout the land, look for touchpoints where you can tap your Power-Up Band. They might just make special effects appear!

You’ll find these bands at “retail locations in Universal Studios Orlando and Universal CityWalk as well as inside the land.” Again, while a Power-Up Band is not required for your Super Nintendo World experience, it can help you unlock exclusive elements.

FOOD

Universal has released concept art and details about Super Nintendo World, including all the new restaurants we’ll be able to experience in the land!

Toadstool Cafe

Celestial Park

Celestial Park is a massive and lush area that will make up the entrance area and centerpiece hub of the park.

You’ll enter Celestial Park underneath the chronos clock tower. This serves as a “portal” into the park as a whole. Each of the other four lands also has a portal marking its entrance, each themed to the respective land.

The Entrance to Epic Universe

ATTRACTIONS

While Celestial Park itself is NOT themed to any specific IP, that doesn’t mean the land will be devoid of attractions. In fact, it’s going to be home to two of Epic Universe’s main rides.

Stardust Racers

The first, and arguably the main attraction of the entire park, is the Stardust Racers roller coaster.  The massive, dueling coaster themed to traveling through space is going to feature several thrilling elements. It will reach speeds of up to 62 mph and heights of up to 133 feet along a track of 5,000 feet, and it features a maneuver known as the “Celestial Spin,” which will see the two dueling coaster vehicles perform an “inverted crisscross” around each other.

Stardust Racers

The ride will not have external track lighting at night. Why? Universal explains that this design will then make “the fully illuminated ride vehicles appear as comets shooting across the night sky above Celestial Park.”

The height requirement is 48 inches.

Stardust Racers

Constellation Carousel

The area will also feature the massive Constellation Carousel, which will allow riders the opportunity to “whirl aboard constellations that glide forward, backward – and even make 360-degree rotations – through the Milky Way in a choreographed dance of music and starlight.”

The Constellation Carousel

Universal shares, “Guest carriages include celestial lions, dragons, peacocks, and more.” Each carriage can lift riders up to 6 feet in the air.

There is no height requirement but children under 48 inches must be accompanied by a supervising companion, and hand-held infants are not permitted.

©Universal

Astronomica

Astronomica is an interactive wet-play area that is also a giant compass to show the way to the other lands. It will feature crystal blue fountains that guests can play with.

Celestial Park

Entertainment and More

Celestial Park is sort of a “world between worlds,” where the energy of the universe is harnessed to create the “portals” to the other four lands. And it looks like there will be plenty of details to look for throughout the area.

Celestial Park statue work and greenery

Universal has also shared that there will be “Plenty of exciting entertainment, including various fountain shows throughout Celestial Park’s seven acres of water where a multitude of fountains sway, dance – and even reach heights up to 135 feet in the air – to music and interactive lighting from day to night.”

Click here to read more about the nighttime show coming to Celestial Park!

FOOD

Celestial Park will also feature several restaurants.

Atlantic

Atlantic will be a full-service “surf and turf” restaurant. It’s set inside a Victorian aquarium with incredible views of the land. There will also be a bar here called Aquaria Bar, where you can grab a cocktail.

©Universal

Fun fact: According to Universal, “The decorative fish that line the ceiling are surrounded by metallic curtains that shimmer as they sway, creating the illusion of being underwater in a massive aquarium.”

See the Aquaria Bar in the center of the concept art here? ©Universal

The Blue Dragon Pan-Asian Restaurant

The Blue Dragon Pan-Asian Restaurant is also a full-service restaurant. Here, you’ll find authentic Chinese, Japanese, and Thai food with neon dragons and lanterns all around.

©Universal

According to Universal, you’ll “Step inside a bustling courtyard, where it’s always evening under the glow of ethereal lanterns.” You can also grab a cocktail here at The Tiger Bar.

Fun fact: Universal shares “Be sure to keep your eyes open while dining. The signage hanging around the restaurant contains many easter eggs of Celestial Park you won’t want to miss.”

©Universal

More Dining Locations

Other dining spots will include The Oak & Star Tavern serving barbecue and Pizza Moon serving a variety of pizzas.

SHOPPING

There will be gift shops to check out too, including the Nintendo Super Star Store, with plenty of merchandise themed to Super Nintendo World.

©Universal

And look out for Moonship Chocolates & Celestial Sweets for some sweet treats.

HELIOS GRAND HOTEL

At the end of Celestial Park, you’ll see the Universal Helios Grand Hotel.

Grand Helios Hotel – ©Universal

This hotel will feature 500 rooms, “one-of-a-kind views and its very own dedicated entrance into the theme park.”

How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk

In March of 2024, Universal released official details on Epic Universe’s How to Train Your Dragon land, Isle of Berk.

Universal describes it as an “authentic re-creation of the rugged, rocky world where raucous Vikings and rambunctious dragons live together in hilarious harmony.”

According to Universal, “Guests visiting Berk will encounter one of the most breathtaking environments Universal has ever created – complete with immense architecture featuring hand-carved details, lush landscaping, and extraordinary heights of rolling hills surrounding vibrant dragon houses and local establishments.”

“And everywhere guests look within the bustling village, they’ll find endless activity – from active dragons in their natural habitats and sheep attempting to disguise themselves as Terrible Terror dragons to sporadic bouts of fire – making Isle of Berk an attraction unto itself.”

©Universal

ATTRACTIONS

Hiccup’s Wing Gliders

Attractions for the land include Hiccup’s Wing Gliders, a family launch coaster that Universal says, “launches aspiring Dragon Riders into the air, swooping and soaring and encountering Hiccup and Toothless along the way.”

Universal describes it as “a fun coaster that invites Vikings to prove they’re brave enough to speed through the sky with dragons.”

©Universal

You’ll “fly alongside Hiccup and Toothless and reach speeds up to 45 mph as [you] soar around the perimeter of Berk – and even through the lagoon.”

The height requirement is 40 inches. Those under 48 inches must come with a supervising companion and hand-held infants are not permitted.

©Universal

Fyre Drill

Next up is the Fyre Drill boat ride, which Universal says sends riders into a “watery, interactive boat battle at sea. Board your ship in Fyre Drill and blast your water cannons at flame-like targets – and the occupants of every other boat – to out-soak other Vikings.”

©Universal

According to the story, the mischievous Viking twins Ruffnut and Tuffnut have “transformed Berk’s Fyre Skööl into a watery, interactive boat battle at sea.” Turns out if you’ve got fire-breathing dragons everywhere, you’ve got to be prepared to put out those fires!

Be warned — it sounds like you’ll get pretty wet on this ride! Universal shares, “This watery sea adventure has water cannons that shoot over 28 feet through the air to reach the many targets throughout the ride, along with other Viking ships.”

©Universal

There is no minimum height requirement, but children under 48″ must be accompanied by a supervising companion, and hand-held infants are not permitted.

Dragon Racer’s Rally

Next, there’s Dragon Racer’s Rally, a spinner attraction that will allow “new Vikings to practice aerobatic maneuvers and high-speed barrel rolls on a Viking-made dragon-riding trainer. You’ll need these high-flying, gravity-defying, swooping and soaring skills if you hope to become a champion dragon racer.”

©Universal

The training vehicles here will reach heights of up to 67 feet in the air. But the interesting thing to note is that you’ll be able to control how “wild” or “mild” your experience is.

The height requirement is 48 inches.

©Universal

The Untrainable Dragon

Beyond these rides, the land will also feature a massive stage show – similar to one already in Universal Beijing Resort. This show will be called The Untrainable Dragon. According to Universal, “this dragon-filled live spectacular takes guests on an unforgettable journey with beloved characters Hiccup, Toothless, Gobber, and Astrid as they work together to solve the mystery of The Untrainable Dragon. This heartwarming story comes to life with captivating musical numbers, breathtaking sets and life-sized dragons soaring overhead.”

Be sure to look UP during this show because Toothless will fly above the audience. He weighs in at 1,157 pounds, with a wingspan of nearly 27 feet!

©Universal

Meet-and-Greets

The land will also feature meet and greets with numerous characters (including life-size dragons).

©Universal

You’ll actually be able to visit the Haddock Paddock to meet Hiccup and Toothless. But look for other Vikings and dragons throughout the park — including Astrid and Stormfly.

Plus, Universal has teased “You might even catch dragons flying high overhead.” So you’ll definitely want to look for all kinds of cool details in this land!

Viking Training Camp

The land will also feature a play area called Viking Training Camp, where young Vikings can “discover all types of dragons as they climb, slide and explore.”

©Universal

This space will feature a Viking agility course, a Toothless-themed teeter-totter, baby Gronckle dragon climbers, Viking drums and chimes, an interactive sheep launcher game, slides, and more.

Fun fact: According to Universal, “The Isle of Berk contains 119 buckets, 175 barrels, 168 crates, 151 feed sacks, 115 books and 120 baskets. Some of these can be spotted in the Viking Training Camp.”

©Universal

FOOD

Get ready to FEAST! Within the Isle of Berk, you’ll find a few restaurants.

Mead Hall

Mead Hall, which Universal describes as “Berk’s main gathering place, a grand chamber hewn from mountain rock where Vikings feast on a hearty menu including meat, fish, sandwiches and desserts. Beverages include assorted meads, ciders and ales.”

Note that this will be a quick service restaurant location.

©Universal

Fun fact: Universal notes “The village’s main gathering place has faux entrance doors standing an impressive 16 feet 7 inches tall.”

Spit Fyre Grill

Spit Fyre Grill is another restaurant in the land. Spit Fyre Grill is a quick service restaurant that will overlook the Fyre Drill water attraction. It will feature “hearty meals flame-seared by a helpful (unseen) dragon fry cook”

Hooligan’s Grog & Gruel

Hooligan’s Grog & Gruel is another food location in the land where guests can “grab quick bites.” It’ll be a “festive racing-themed food stand located in the Viking Camp.”

SHOPPING

Shops in the land will include  Viking Traders, How to Treat Your Dragon, Hiccup’s Work Shop, and Toothless’ Treasures.

©Universal

It’s also rumored that guests will be able to “adopt” their own dragon — possibly the one they’re “training” to ride — which will interact with the land.

Dark Universe

Arguably the second-most-anticipated land coming to Epic Universe is Dark Universe! The Dark Universe land will feature many of the famous Universal Monsters, including Dracula, Wolf Man, and Frankenstein.

Dark Universe Portal – Universal

One of the characters whose story is important to Dark Universe is Dr. Victoria Frankenstein. According to Universal, she is “the great-great-granddaughter of the infamous Henry Frankenstein who has continued his misguided experiments.”

Dark Universe is set in the village of Darkmoor. As you venture through the town, you’ll encounter the characters and subjects of the experiments of the Frankensteins.

©Universal

ATTRACTIONS

Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment

The main attraction in Dark Universe will be called Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment and Universal has touted it as its “most terrifying attraction yet.” The dark ride “takes guests deep into the catacombs of Frankenstein Manor, where Dr. Victoria Frankenstein conducts her twisted experiments. In a vain display of her genius, she invites guests into her laboratory to witness a demonstration of her ability to control monsters – but her plans go awry when her attempts to control the most dangerous of monsters, Dracula, fails, unleashing a horde of enraged monsters.”

©Universal

“Guests are then thrust into an intense ride through the darkness as they try to evade the grasps of The Wolf Man, The Mummy, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, the Brides of Dracula and others.”

©Universal

The minimum height requirement is 48 inches.

Also, fun fact: “The Phantom of the Opera’s organ within the Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment features 14 individual flame points that shoot vertical flames over 3 feet in the air and dance in synchronicity with the organ music.”

Curse of the Werewolf

The land will also feature a second attraction — a family-style spinning coaster known as Curse of the Werewolf. This ride is inspired by “The Wolf Man.” According to Universal, “Guests will enter the encampment of The Guild of Mystics where they’ll be greeted by the Maleva, the guild’s all-knowing seer and leader, who warns them that they bear the mark of the werewolf. Guests then board a wagon and venture into the forest – racing to escape the werewolves before they become one themselves.”

©Universal

The height requirement for the ride is 40 inches.

Universal shares, “Curse of the Werewolf tears through the dark forest at 37 mph, for over 2 minutes of sheer thrill, racing through a dark foreboding shed with mysterious figures clawing ever so near.”

Darkmoor Monster Makeup Experience

In addition to these two attractions, the land will feature a makeup experience called Darkmoor Monster Makeup Experience. This will be for guests of all ages.

According to Universal, “monster makers have converted Dr. Pretorius’ infamous old lab into a parlor to continue the spirit of his demented experiments, and skilled artisans use their talents to transform guests’ outer appearances so they can showcase their fandom for the Universal Monsters.”

©Universal

Meet-and-Greets

If you’ve always wanted to meet some spooky characters, Dark Universe will take care of that! According to Universal, you’ll be able to meet folks like “Dr. Victoria Frankenstein’s Monster and the alluring Bride of Frankenstein.”

But you’ll also want to keep an eye out for some of the “unusual inhabitants roaming the eerie village, including Victoria Frankenstein’s servant, Ygor, The Invisible Man, an eccentric monster hunter, and a talented musician who regales guests with songs and tales of the classic Universal Monsters stories.”

©Universal

FOOD

Three restaurants will be available in the new land.

Das Stakehaus

First up there’s Das Stakehaus. According to Universal, this is a “dining hall run by vampire ‘familiars’ who size up unsuspecting patrons to be part of the vampires’ feast.” The menu here will feature kebabs, burgers, sandwiches, and more. This will be a quick service restaurant.

©Universal

Fun fact: According to Universal, “Das Stakehaus’ many paintings depict the world of vampires from their point of view, painting them as heroes in their stories, while displaying some of Darkmoor’s history, and referencing its architecture.”

The Burning Blade Tavern

Another dining spot will be called The Burning Blade Tavern. This is also a quick service restaurant. One of the most unique things about this spot is that it’ll have windmill blades that smoulder and flame periodically. In fact, you’ll see it erupt into flames several times an hour thanks to the 2 types of fuel being used in different ratios, “allowing for easy visibility to guests during both day and night.”

©Universal

According to Universal, “Darkmoor’s monster hunters have transformed this old fiery mill into their favorite hangout.” While here, you’ll even get to hear “stories of the infamous ‘Hounds’ – boastful hunters from beyond Darkmoor – all while surrounded by an impressive display of the monster heads they consider their ‘trophies.'”

The menu here will feature burgers, wings, bratwurst, pretzels, and specialty beverages.

De Lacey’s Cottage

The final restaurant will be De Lacey’s Cottage. This food stand will have a few different snacks and cool treats like cinnamon bread, ice cream, twisted taters, and more.

©Universal

SHOPPING

In terms of souvenirs, you’ll be able to grab some items at Pretorius’ Scientific Oddities.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Ministry of Magic

According to Universal, this latest Potter-themed land will blend “1920s wizarding Paris from Warner Bros. Pictures’ Fantastic Beasts films with the iconic British Ministry of Magic from the Harry Potter series.”

Wizarding World Portal

Universal explains that once you step through the world’s portal, you “will first journey from a Muggle park in Paris into the breathtaking spectacle of 1920’s Place Cachée – a hidden, bustling shopping district in wizarding Paris lined with Haussmannian buildings, shops, sidewalk cafés, and historic Parisian domes rising in the distance.”

©Universal

ATTRACTIONS

The land’s centerpiece is a massive dark ride called Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry. The adventure starts as you travel through by “Métro-Floo – a unique mode of wizarding transit inspired by the iconic Floo Network seen in the films – to journey from wizarding Paris to the British Ministry of Magic for the long-awaited trial of the infamous Dolores Umbridge.”

©Universal

You’ll enter the grand atrium of the Ministry and go through some of its departments “before boarding magical, omnidirectional lifts to watch the trial take place…until Umbridge attempts to escape.”

©Universal

Then, you’ll “join Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger and a house-elf named Higgledy in a thrilling chase that will propel [you] up, down, forward, backward, sideways and more throughout the Ministry as [you] try to capture Umbridge – all while dodging attacks from Death Eaters, rampaging creatures and more along the way.”

©Universal

The height requirement is 40 inches.

Le Cirque Arcanus

The land will also feature Le Cirque Arcanus, a stage show based around the Fantastic Beasts franchise. According to Universal, it will be a “live, full-scale theatre experience” featuring “puppetry, brilliant special effects and more to take guests on a whirlwind journey where they’ll encounter fantastic beasts like never before.”

©Universal

The show will follow the story of “Ringmaster Skender, who has stolen Newt Scamander’s suitcase – where Demiguise, Diricawl, Mooncalves and more reside – to try and bring the failing Le Cirque Arcanus back to its former glory. It’s then up to circus employee Gwenlyn to rescue these creatures before they end up in Skender’s greedy hands forever.”

©Universal

Interestingly, Universal notes that “Guests can explore the strange and unusual acts of Le Cirque Arcanus as they stroll past the many sideshow booths on their way to the main stage.” So that’s something to look for!

Entertainment

While you explore the streets of Place Cachée, keep an eye out for interesting visitors. Universal shares that you’ll be able to encounter officials and residents from the wizarding world, “including exchange students from the Hogwarts and Ilvermorny Schools of Witchcraft and Wizardry, an Auror from the Ministère des Affaires Magiques de la France who roams inquiring of suspicious characters, talking portraits of delightful wizards who engage with locals about the happenings in Place Cachée, and more.”

©Universal

Wand Magic

Throughout the streets of wizarding Paris, you’ll be able to use the famous “interactive wands to create magical experiences as [you] cast spells at various locations, interact with fantastic beasts such as Nifflers, Bowtruckles and a Demiguise, and engage with enchanted objects in many of the storefront windows plus other areas throughout the marvelous Place Cachée.”

©Universal

Menu offerings include starters such as soups and salads as well as a variety of entrées and desserts.”
