Universal Debuts a New Virtual Line System

When Universal Orlando reopened last year, they began using a virtual line system on select rides so that guests could reserve a spot in line without being physically at the ride.

Yesterday, Universal Orlando began testing out a NEW virtual line system that we went to test out today.

In the new system, guests can pull up the Virtual Line system on the Universal app from the home page, side toolbar menu, or on the individual rides pages.

Once you’ve clicked on Virtual Line, it will prompt you to create an account with the system! There’s a short tutorial about how to use it on the app.

You’ll need to enter your email and the size of your party when you  create your account.

Once you’ve done that, the system will request that you share your location with the app. This is so that guests cannot make reservations without being in the park physically. You’ll need to share your location in order to use the Virtual Line system.

We clicked OK, and then our phone prompted us to turn on location sharing.

Once you have an account, you can select a ride and a time to go on it, and then it will reserve your spot! You’ll receive a QR code that you will show when you’re called back to go to the ride! It will be scanned, and you’ll be admitted to the ride!

Since Universal  was testing out this new system for the first time today, we only saw passes available for Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure and the Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon.

  1. You must be in the park (not even in Citiwalk or a resort nearby) to sign up. Also once you come back, you still have to wait (we waited another 30 minutes in line.)

  2. Do you need to be on-site to see the Virtual Line in the App? I do not see it as an available option to set-up my family right now, and was hoping to get this set prior to our trip.

    1. Sounds like from the article you need to have location services on and on property. As it is testing I am sure the option to load your party into your account prior will be available. Kinda how Disney does it with groups. Just enter the ticket number and send them an email to accept.
