NEWS: Orange County Mayor Shares Update on Potential Theme Park Closures Due to Hurricane Idalia

Many people are wondering what’s going to happen with their Disney World plans ahead of Hurricane Idalia.

While updates have been streaming in about the hurricane’s projected path and rainfall, Disney World and Universal Orlando have both stated they plan to remain open. Now, a public official has made comments concerning that plan.

At a recent press conference on August 29th, Mayor Jerry Demings made some comments regarding the state of Orange County and the expectations for theme parks in the coming days.

Just as Disney has stated they plan to remain open, Mayor Demings echoes those thoughts. He stated, “In terms of our theme parks, our theme parks are likely going to remain open for the majority of the time.”

Mayor Demings also said that the theme parks themselves will have to “make the call based on circumstances at the time.” He suspects there may be times that they will need to close, but those decisions will be made by the theme parks.

As of late Tuesday afternoon, Hurricane Idalia is predicted to be a Category 3 hurricane and to be at Orange County (Disney World) on Wednesday. Experts are predicting 3-5 inches of rain in the area.
