The only thing that never changes at Disney World IS change.

Let us explain: Walt Disney once said that Disneyland would always be a work in progress, and that applies to Disney World, too. It’s constantly changing, and expanding, as well as getting new restaurants, attractions, and even new lands. However, an upcoming change will soon have a MASSIVE impact on some Disney World visitors.
The Shades of Green Resort at Disney World is a resort on Disney World property for U.S. Armed Forces. The resort is meant to offer low-cost accommodations for active and retired members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, Reserves, and National Guard, as well as anyone currently employed by the Department of Defense and U.S. Public Health Officers.

Right now, Disney World is in the middle of its World Drive expansion project, which is bringing new roadways to the resort to improve traffic flow in the area. That project will soon affect Disney World visitors staying at Shades of Green Resort. Starting on May 1st, the project will move to work between Shades of Green and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort.

As a result, the walkway between Shades of Green and Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort will no longer be accessible (many Shades of Green guests make the walk to catch transportation to the parks from the Polynesian). However, Shades of Green will be adding additional buses that go to and from the Ticket and Transportation Center so those hotel guests can get to their destinations.

Shades of Green has also stated that its guests will still be able to use their own vehicles, but they will be charged a parking fee at the theme parks — THE standard parking fee is currently $25 per day. Another option is rideshare services like Uber, Lyft, and Minnie Vans.
So if you have an upcoming stay booked at Shades of Green, make sure you’re aware of this transportation change. We’ll also continue to keep an eye out for any other changes at Disney World, so be sure to check back with AllEars for more.

Do you stay at this resort in Disney World? What do you think of this change? Let us know in the comments!
So Disney is making no accommodations for this change? Extra busses would be at the expense of Shades of Green and from a parking perspective, Disney is treating military guests as off site. This is very discouraging and seems deliberate as there are walkways and cross walks provided across many major traffic areas. Military Salute Tickets seem to have a different meaning now.
How long is the project expected to impact this area? I have a trip in early June.
I read that its going to be a permanent change. There are no plans to build bridges or crosswalks. Basically no more easy access to the Polynesian and Monorail form hear on out.
