When extreme weather is expected at Disney World, several things can change at the parks and hotels.
You may see certain events get canceled or areas close in preparation for the weather. And Disney will often suspend hotel reservations and park passes in order to limit guests arriving at the resort. In addition, Disney’s cancelation policy will usually change as some guests choose to reschedule their trip in order to avoid the storms. That’s what we’re seeing now ahead of Tropical Storm Nicole.
Tropical Storm Nicole is predicted to hit Central Florida on Wednesday, with the worst of the storm expected on Wednesday night and Thursday morning. Disney has already canceled some nighttime events in preparation, and now they’ve updated their cancelation policy.
According to a message sent to Disney travel agents, guests wishing to cancel their Disney park tickets or hotel stay because of the incoming storm may do so without being punished by cancelation policies. Disney said, “Any customary cancelation fees will be waived.”
Normally, canceling room-only reservations at a Disney hotel will involve a fee unless you cancel more than 5 days before your stay. For vacation packages, you usually have to cancel more than 30 days before the first day of your trip in order to avoid fees. Park tickets are normally nontransferable and nonrefundable. Now, however, all of these reservations can be canceled without penalty.

Although Disney is mostly operating under normal conditions (the parks and hotels are still open), some areas have closed, including Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park and miniature gold locations.
